Attitude problems rumoured I thought. Palace better at accommodating dickheads perhaps and maybe he's worked through those issues now? If there's a low release fee that might explain it too, go to a club that would fit him well so that he could prove his talent and stability, then go somewhere decent

He'd spent time in Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City's academies before moving to Reading, so clearly there's something a bit off about him that perhaps has now been resolved (or perhaps not...?)

The £8M fee to Palace was reportedly a release fee, so it would never have gone higher and clearly he thought they were his best option at the time. Hmmm - maybe it's his decision making that's a problem...?

This is where they find out that a Cat A Academy development is a long-term process and that only 2 years of the acadamey operating and season-long loans of the most promising players to League 1&2 clubs isn't going to backfill at senior Premier League level.
