Brighton. NOT KEMPTOWN!
I used to go fishing off the pier around the time of the picture 1973. In fact the bloke in the light blue jeans could've been me!!
...and I thought it could have been me!

Be careful of the rose-tinted spectacles ...

Not sure how old you are but I remember Brighton in the 60s and 70s, even the 80s, and despite the nice pictures it was grotty and run-down. Like a lot of British seaside towns it had seen better days (and as Brighton's heyday was the Regency and early Victorian eras - MUCH better days), and at this time it was memorably described by Keith Waterhouse as a seedy town that 'looked like it was always helping the police with their enquires.'

Now of course it's re-invented itself, quite successfully, as Hipster Central, but your point about the modern buildings though is sadly accurate.
Correct.

And let's not forget the dog shit smears on the pavements. Christ, the 60s were awful.

What used to get me was old blokes outside a fag shop gobbing a big lump on the pavement, I though that would die out, now it's become a fashion statement.
If you happened to be on your own, and were spotted by a group of boys from anther school, they would immediately start to run after you, and you had to leg it or else.

Does that still happen?

And antiperspirant. Nobody used that, and everywhere stank, but we were so used to it we hardly noticed.

Oh and 'cows-mess' breath. Some of the boys in my junior school never brushed their teeth.
