What a fascinating photo. Could it be a swimming pool? I used to look after these gardens throughout the 1980's but never thought they would have looked like this 50 years before.
Obviously not the 1959 Ben Hur with Charlton Heston judging by the style of the vehicle. There was an earlier silent movie version of Ben Hur made in 1925 so must have been that one.
My town of birth in 1955. Main shop is Lavels, a newsagent who had two shops in the town (village as it was then). I remember buying a World Cup Willie from that shop in '66. Behind the camera is the old infants school I went to, which should have been demolished years ago.
The Black Rabbit in Arundel?
That's my Brighton fact of the year. I knew nothing of that. I'm guessing it's mid-30s then. Still only the value of about £55k these days.A typical 30s style house …… but in North Street Brighton? Yes . When Braybons built the estate at Withdene they put a show house there on the corner of Princes Place . An excellent shop window. Later it was carefully painted dismantled and rebuilt on the estate . I believe they sold for about £895 .

That is the most amazing fact of the day, but for WATFORD zero to then come back with the house as it is today blows my mind.A typical 30s style house …… but in North Street Brighton? Yes .
