Great running everyone, cracking efforts all round. I just went for a plod over Firle Beacon from Southease and back. Very, very windy on the way back up there but much drier than some of the other parts of the Downs I’ve seen lately.

Only 42 seconds and 11 places between Ninja Elephant and big nuts. Good racing chaps... and happily short of my pb :pfor now)

Officially 37 seconds between me and Ninja. No complaints I ran a decent race but the better man won.

I go again for the Brighton half in two weeks so I can beat his time there as long as they measure the course properly this time.

Would like to see the comparative splits as the gap barely moved throughout. I thought at 9.5 I was closing but his full head of hair bobbed away in the distance and I couldn’t close.

Worthing half done in 2:04:02 today, PB by 3 minutes! the headwind wasn't pleasant and my heart rate was getting a bit of a concern at 10K but I pulled it back in.

Ninja vs BN
1k 3:54 vs 3:59
2k 3:58 vs 4:06
3k 4:00 vs 4:03
4k 4:04 vs 4:05
5k 4:07 vs 4:07
6k 4:14 vs 4:10
7k 4:05 vs 4:06
8k 4:11 vs 4:01
9k 4:10 vs 4:09
10k 4:08 vs 4:08
11k 4:14 vs 4:08
12k 4:20 vs 4:17
13k 4:25 vs 4:19
14k 4:18 vs 4:22
15k 4:16 vs 4:16
16k 4:23 vs 4:22
17k 4:01 vs 4:13
18k 4:07 vs 4:05
19k 4:03 vs 4:09
20k 4:02 vs 4:04
21k 3:54 vs 4:01
21.? 3:47 vs 3:38

As a stat man I always find the comparison interesting and at 16k it was game on but the final 5k saw me lose further ground when it was getting close. Visually at around 9.5 I was very close to parity based on my grid position but the younger man showed his class to take a deserved victory.

Delighted to keep the big man away from me today although as you can see, very close! By my count there were just 2 seconds between our chip times at mile 8.

I don't really feel like there was too much left at the end and I misjudged where the finishing line was so I kicked far too soon and then was blowing heavily on the final dash to the line. I felt strong the whole way around, miles 7-10 into the wind were tough but I always felt fairly confident I was going at a pace I could manage and sustain. Going off ahead was a gamble which could have backfired and when an big nuts clone went past me between miles 5 and 6 (I think!), I thought I was in a lot of trouble. I'm a little bit gutted to run a mile over 7 minutes when all the others were below the magic number!

Blimey you were only 3 seconds ahead at mile 10. Final 5k was the difference in the end. It was a good battle from my perspective as you were generally always in my sights, for you less so as you probably didn't see me at any stage.

I had absolutely no idea where you were at any point, I'm not sure how I would have reacted had you come up alongside, or gone past. I have a sneaky suspicion you would have kept pace under the pressure had you been able to get parity. Or you would have had the choice of just sitting behind me the whole way and taken either the Chip time win, or mugged me off on the line which would have been a day destroying catastrophe for me!

If you are both on Strava you can use the fly by function to see the gap change along the run.

I am not currently doing the Brighton Half but I might get a chance to run it AS Gully, in full costume.

If I do, and I beat big nuts, I think retirement is the only option!

Sounds like great racing - without knowing you were racing - from ninja and big nuts. And well done to the rest of you. I've seen some very impressive HM times from Worthing today.

You’re going to make a lot of people who’ve trained very hard for the Brighton HM very upset when their big day is ruined by a giant furry seagull bolting off into the distance. I can’t wait to see it!

My first ever race was the BM10k three years ago. I hadn't run since school and had got up to 16 stone so my initial goal was just to get round. In the end training suggested I could do it in under an hour & that's what I aimed for.

So, in the last mile, in my head, I was flying (actually I was heading for 55 mins). Imagine my disappointment when I was overtaken, effortlessly, by a ****ing panda.

I really enjoyed Sunday even if there was a considerable headwind everytime you ran in a westerly direction - miles 8,9 & 10 were particularly tough along the seafront, but then it was lovely to turn and have the wind push you along for the final 3.1 miles home! My mile 10 time was 8.55 and then mile 11 8.17 , even with feeling shattered! I had nothing left to give so really happy and came in with a PB of 1.51.01 (previous PB was 1.53.18 at a short distance Brighton HM last year)

Looking forward to Brighton in a couple of weeks and just hope for NO WIND please!

Not in the order of running but my mile splits were , 8.16,8.17,8.18,8.19,8.19,8.19,8.22,8.22,8.24,8.30 (wind mile 8), 8.31 (mile 4 westerly but off the seafront), 8.47 (wind mile 9) & 8.55 (wind mile 10)

So 9 of my miles within 8 seconds of each other - happy with that consistency.

Hi guys,

I'm running the Brighton Half-Marathon on Sunday 25th. Coming down from Edinburgh for the weekend and really looking forward to it. I've had a look at the course and it looks reasonably flat, although I'm wondering if there is long slow incline up to St Dunstans? Presumably one of the major challenges will be the wind. Hoping for decent weather on the day and it being a bit warmer than it has been here recently!

Any other info gratefully received!

Cheers

There are a few of us running it. I am, Mr Blobby is and a couple of BHA mates including one doing it for AITC. Hopefully should be able to arrange a pre race meet up. I think I'm meeting some friends off a running Facebook group too.

Yes the run up to Ovingdean is a gentle incline which is another reason I changed my route this weekend. You can tell who has and who hasn't done hill training at that part. After that it's nice and flat but exposed so you're also correct about the wind. Times will largely be down to training and conditions on the day.
