.....talking of which, I was enjoying a hard hilly 5k jog today at Leeds Castle today when I spotted penny's harmonica bearing down on me at speed. He'd made up his 5-6" swim deficit on the bike and run. I managed to hold him off but it was a close call.

Really enjoyed it. Great day out.

Well done both - do we now need triathlon columns added to the table?

Was this the event in which you were trying to beat your long term rival? Did you do him? Have you got your splits? What a day and what a venue...…………...

Apologies for not making the Hove Park run this morning. I got in from Croatia last night and ended staying in Hurstpierpoint rather than my original plan to stay at my brother's place in Hove. I did a 10k around here instead. Perfect morning for it.

I will make it to a parkrun next time I visit the UK!

Hello all. Not posted on this thread before as only took up running a few months ago having been pretty lazy and unfit for the last decade but decided to do something to change that having turned 31 in January. Completed Leicester Big 10k a couple of months ago in 56:30 (my goal was to beat the hour mark so I was delighted) which is nothing compared to the serious pace I can see you guys are running but one step at a time and all that!

Am running Prestwold 10k tomorrow which is the next step to my first half marathon in October (Leicester Half). Not confident about tomorrow as my training for the last four weeks has been very stop start due to injury and family commitments. Just hoping it's not too warm in the morning as I do find I struggle in anything other arctic conditions!

No it was a dress rehearsal for the big showdown at Bewl in Early August.
The rumble in the reservoir Knocky v Baz v penny's harmonica. Impossible to call the odds.......

Hope your injury mends quickly. My inner thigh tightened at the finish yesterday but I've stretched it out luckily.

Good luck at Prestwold today. Start steady and push the last 2-3km.

Cheers. Assuming the running is OK (of course), how is the swimming and the bike training going?

Will add my welcome. Stick at it and you'll still be picking up running injuries, like me, at more than twice your 31 years. (Not sure if this is inspirational!)

The running is 5-10% down. bit more after the bike yesterday. So I'll forget racing a time at the Phoenix 10K and concentrate on a 6 week plan.
The swimming was done purely on technique and muscle memory as only swum 25 minutes in total since last September. Daily dip in the sea from now on.
The cycle training needs an increase in mileage and speed workouts.

Reduce alcohol consumption by 80% and I'll still be a drunk but should be in good shape in 6 weeks.

And you still finished 6th in your age group :clap2:

Fantastic day out at Leeds castle yesterday, I’m hurting today but will aim at closing the 20 second gap before Bewl

Good running, swimming and biking all round chaps, well done.

Welcome to sjamesb3466 . My first target for my first 10K was to beat an hour but I didn't go near a half marathon for nearly another year. Keep at it and let us all know how you get on.

12 miles on the clifftop to Roedean for me this morning. Tried to keep a relaxed 9.30 to 10.00 pace except for the cool down which I ran / walked again. I find this is much more gentle on getting my heart rate back to normal. Ran for about half a mile with another bloke of similar age and pace in central Brighton having a good laugh at the wasted kids on the beach.

Thanks for the luck. It obviously helped as I've just got home having beaten my last (and only!) 10k by approx 27 seconds to finish with a 56:03 by my stopwatch. Might be a second or two out but definitely a PB which I am delighted with, especially as it was a full 16 degrees hotter at 23 degree's today.

Next up Badgers Atherstone 10k at the end of August.

Thanks again for the welcome messages. Much appreciated.

Good work. You do know the 10k is probably the hardest distance to run. Short enough to go faster than tempo pace but hard to keep it up to the finish. Just drop the pace for the half marathon and enjoy the first 10 miles.
