It's only because they order the table by the wrong column.

You could always join the failed Marathon Thread and do a table.
Anyone can order the columns in any way they like on here! I did it by AG percentage once, which is a truer sign of class than a mere 5K or marathon time.

You'd still be at the bottom as you haven't run anything that qualifies in 2018. :)

Booooo.

I’ll be posting a ParkRun this Saturday. Onwards and upwards!

Seeking some advice. Through the power of the internet I have expertly diagnosed myself with hip bursitis (99% sure I have this). I have rested (no exercise at all) and done hip strengthening exercise for two weeks. Went for a short run on Saturday and pain still there. Has anyone else had this injury? My guess is I need to rest longer. Anyone got any experience of recovery times from this?

Getting away from the table ordering CONTROVERSY!

I went out for a gentle 8-10 miler at lunch time and found myself dying a miserable death very early on, but I had deliberately chosen a route to take me nicely away from the office. The pound coin I had taken with me to get a drink at half way escaped through a hole I didn't know existed in my pocket so I was in real trouble from about mile 4 onwards (Jacob's Ladder in Bevendean) and foolishly opted to carry on out to Falmer Road and then all the way down to the coast road and back. I ended up doing 11.1 miles in the searing heat at about 9 minutes per mile. Endurance wise I've gained a lot, but I'm very dehydrated despite all the water I've absorbed since. I also had a freezing cold shower and I've rarely felt more alive, that's going to be a thing after a long run now I think!

I've Googled it and it sounds a lot like what I've been struggling with since before the marathon (which I still ran!) - for me it's taken a good 4 weeks or so to get over completely, I have only felt back to fitness since saturday, even when running just a parkrun each week I was feeling the pain by the end. I feel like it's healed itself now through a combination of rest, stretching and icing but as ever, self diagnosis is dangerous and you really ought to consider getting it checked out.

Iliotibial Band Syndrome can create a hip bursitis sensation. You may benefit from a pounding from a good sports injury specialist or googling the seated pigeon or such stretches.

"Repetitive rubbing of the ITB across the bony prominences of the hip and knee causes an inflammatory response and pain. The greater trochanteric bursa is a fluid-filled sac that cushions the tendon of the gluteus medius muscle as its inserts into a bony prominence (the greater trochanter) on the outside of the hip."

You are, of course, right. I don't really know why I've got myself into such a negative mindset about this marathon.

I think it's because my plan before Brighton was just to complete Brighton and then go for sub-3:30 at Edinburgh. But Brighton went far better than I could have hoped, I got 3:29:52 and as a result I've not got an aim for Edinburgh. I've already achieved my time goal, so there is nothing to play for now. If I'd got 3:31 at Brighton I'd be so up for Edinburgh. So I'm going to take your advice as you are correct. It's all about completing it, enjoying it and wanting to do it all again. Nobody is going to get a PB every time they run, so I think the plan on Sunday should be to sit back 10 or 15 secs/km off my Brighton pace and have fun.

Sounds good to me. When I ran Brighton and London two years ago, they were one week apart. Plan was to go for it in Brighton and enjoy London (but still put in a bit of effort). Turned out that Brighton didn't go to plan, which, weirdly, meant I enjoyed London even more – even though it took longer.

But dazzer6666 is spot on – no road race will be a patch on Beachy. Get yourself there this year

Evening all. Are we still Worthing Prom parkrunning on Saturday as I will definitely be doing a park run somewhere? If so, knocky1 how are you getting over there?

Unfortunately I am unable to represent the title character in the NSC Weakest Link D Team as I will be at another dull presentation in Birmingham that day

I was planning on cycling over. A steady flat 8 mile warm up. Legs feel shot from cross training this week. Will try and hang on to @GNT and push him to an unassailable AG.

How are the teams sorted out for the Weakest Link?

I'm presuming we'd base it on SB for 5k's.

SBs taking into account how individuals feel regarding form, personal requirements or injuries. For example, I'm not going to run leg 3 or 4 in a B or C team as I have a Triathlon on the Saturday. So I either do first or second leg or stay in the Wooden Spoon team.
At the moment we have Super Egos; Deletebeep, Big Nuts, Ninja and Complete Badger
Egos; Simgull, Ben Elton, Bobkin and Soistes
Kit washer;

So only 9 runners so far. Anyone I've missed or yet to commit?

Bloody Worthing!
Assuming that NSC folk descent on (or ascend to) Worthing on Saturday here's a bit of local knowledge.

1. It's usually 'safe' to park in Waitrose (10 minute walk to start) i.e they leave the exit barrier up so you don't need to buy anything to get out

2. These days there's around 500 runners some weeks so it's tricky to locate a specific person/people

3, I know it's 'bad form' but around 450 of these will be at the official briefing and then they collectively walk to the start. Old sweats tend to congregate at the start which is by a shelter on the prom about 100 metres west of the briefing (towards the pier)

4. It's an out and back course but the turn is not half-way - it's less than 2.5k with (of course) a correspondingly longer 'back' section so don't get too excited by your time at the turn

5. There are km markers stencilled on the prom (in yellow) but it's very unlikely that you'll spot them.

6. The wind is sometimes a big factor, surprise, surprise.

My thought are that it's best (if you don't mind missing the briefing) to meet by the start - this has the added bonus that you are less likely to be 'trapped' at the back (and miss the SB that you've come for) - although if you are trapped don't worry as the prom widens out after about 100 metres or so. The almost universally recognised NSC Top Geezer will be @knocky who will be visible from a long distance by the throbbing glow of his halo.

Finally, on NO ACCOUNT speak to any locals. They are nasty, violent types who can turn on you in an instant. Hope that's of use.
