I really think you should wear that at Leeds castle. You trying to get out of it may give me an opportunity to catch up.

I will wear it, if you promise to zip me up. Putting it on takes 5 minutes but getting it off no time at all. It's an Orca suit so has all the cheating buoyancy, as seen in Dazzers photo. More importantly it holds the flabby core and floats the legs into the correct swimming kick position.

Each to his own but I think the tedium factor of doing a treadmill twice a day might be an issue? You might want to play around with the inclines to introduce a bit of variety?

I’ve used the treadmill on and off for years and it really does do the job if used properly.

Incline work, HIIT training, programmes its all there. Agreed, if you’re just plodding at the same speed and incline every day it’s gonna get pretty dull.

Agree with this.....if I’ve got a specific interval session to do I don’t mind using the treadmill at all. Sometimes I think it’s beneficial- outdoors you might (even subconsciously) quit on that 800m interval with 100 to go, but on t’mill you KNOW you’re quitting because you press a button. As for plodding a steady 10k....forget it. Way too dull.

Think I've got a downer on T'mills ever since I leapt on one and very quickly cranked the speed up to 13kph only to find it was 13mph..............

Hard session but I'm more interested in who were you keenly chatting to in the Bus Stop at Churchill Square last night.

My old housemate, a Canadian lesbian. Nothing happening there Cap, my head is in the game for the Weakest Link and no doubt!

I did a full leg session this evening and I'm feeling pretty fatigued which is glorious. I'm planning to go out for a longer run tomorrow evening for some mileage and then I'll do a bit of a pyramid or short distance sprints on wednesday or thursday. The 10k season is nearly upon us!

Over the last couple of weeks it’s dawned on me that signing up for two marathons in six weeks was a mistake. I did all the training (and more) for Brighton and got a time that was beyond my expectations. All good. Since then, getting myself motivated for Edinburgh this Sunday has been hard. I’ve only done two long runs - a 27k incorporating a parkrun last Saturday and a 30.5k last Tuesday. Other than that I’ve just been running like normal with a fair number of 12k-18k runs. I don’t feel in shape for a marathon and I don’t really feel like I want to do it. I imagine I’m not going to be able to do any more than plod round. So lesson learned I guess.

I can’t wait for it to be over and to crack on with the fun stuff - getting fast over 5k and 10k.

I think it's good to do a second so soon after the first, you'll feel more relaxed at the start and especially if you're not intending to do a specific time. My second was Beachy Head, now THAT was a mistake! :lolol: Edinburgh is a great one to go and do.

I'm going to attack Bournemouth in October and then looking ahead, I'm thinking about Liverpool 2019 (£35 if signing up before the 27th May) and probably one in Germany in 2019. I can't afford it at the moment, but I am interested. Mr Blobby did Cyprus last year which I'm very jealous of - but it was a 6am start as I recall and that's just unacceptable!

The fact Edinburgh is a net downhill course is about the only positive in my mind right now. I think the lack of motivation comes from the likelihood that, however much I push it, I’m not going to beat my Brighton time by any more than a few seconds so why bother? Might as well just plod round well off the pace. But you’re right, at least it’s not Beachy Head!

Do you know what the course is like at Liverpool? That sounds a good one, I could be interested.

You'll enjoy it on the day, I don't doubt it. I'm jealous I'm not getting involved but I'm nowhere near at the moment. The 4th mile today felt like the death of me, I'm amazed it was the same pace as mile 3 but there was a small climb as you exit the Marina coming back toward the Volks Railway during mile 3, that may have slowed me down a bit on that mile.

I've honestly no idea about the course, but there are live bands (it says bands, so I presume it's plural!) on the day and I strongly believe they'll host a damn fine marathon.

I'm in for Isle of Man on 12th August, that's a full marathon but that's a mental course. Not Beachy Head but it won't be a course for out and out pace.

Beachy Head is infinitely more enjoyable than Edinburgh!

We're all built differently, but I guess this is where I've learned that times don't really matter much. My marathon PB was my second one and 13 later I've got nowhere near it. But it doesn't really bother me – so many of these races are about the occasion and, of course, I'm not likely to get near sub-4 on a trail marathon. You might end up plodding around, but at the same time you might end up getting caught up in the occasion and blast it close to your PB. The main thing for me about running (or any exercise) is enjoying it, or else what's the point? If you've geared yourself up to try and beat Brighton time in Edinburgh I can understand it, but if it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen. Each course is different, the conditions are different and how you feel on the day will be different. Just go with the flow and soak up the atmosphere.

I tweaked my training schedule around this morning so ran 5.5 miles straight off a 12-mile bike ride to Steyning and back. They were both pretty tough – especially as the last 15 minutes biking had to be 'comfortably hard'! Unlike knocky1, I haven't braved the wetsuit OR the sea yet, so it's back to the pool tomorrow morning and hope that the water is not as boiling hot as it was on Sunday!

All the best at Edinburgh! Everyone I've met that's done it says it's brilliant. Flat, fast and a great route.

I don't think Liverpool is particularly flat but there's a fantastic atmosphere. The route goes past Goodison Park and through one of the stands at Anfield! Here's a video of Sunday's race from Ben Parkes, a ridiculously good long distance runner, which captures some of the route.

Much appreciated knocky!

Likewise.

As the year progresses I’m goimg to add some official races to my schedule; I was shocked when I realised my last one, marathons aside, was 3 years back. Going to start with a Park Run this weekend.
