There's not one in Worthing (quite bizarrely) and I don't really fancy doing an hour or more in the car for 25 minutes of running - I'd rather just run for an hour and a half instead!

Probably 24 minutes of running at a parkrun though!

First speed session post marathon, really struggled to sustain a good pace after months of running at 7:30/7:45 pace.

Managed 2.5 miles in 16:33 and I was getting quicker but had nothing left, couldn't even get to 5k but good practice for the NSC park run event.

I might run park run this Saturday more likely to be Hove than Preston Park.

Can't be more than 20 mins to Preston Park or Horsham at that time on a Saturday ? Try it, well worth it......cost of travel offset by the free race entry ?

Thanks for reminding me........interestingly, the chap that won it last year did the equivalent of 33 26 minute parkruns. Unreal. Anyway, been told to do one on Saturday, don't mind where but usually head for Preston Park if anyone is about.......can equally try Hove (would be first time)

As we are blessed with an appearance by the Mo Farah of NSC (Bignuts) this Saturday, do you want to make it Hove? It is where we all usually run and you will like the hill (or gentle incline for SDW Ultras). I was aiming for a 21:10ish time. Any good for you? if so I Will be up for the sitting on your shoulder sort of camaraderie with a battling sprint finish. Be good to see you there and I will wear the green and black away kit so you can spot me and be introduced to the NSC champions,

It's a good job Downham Seagull lives in Kings Lynn otherwise I would be more of a Peter Elliott his seriously quick must be close to sub 18 I would imagine based on his recent 10k time.

I don't think I will pb this week will probably be in or around the 20 minute mark.

I haven't posted on this thread for AGES! Did any of you lot do the 3 Forts Marathon / Half?

I did the half - great route and well organised too. Easy to get to just off the A27 at worthing. Tremendous cake tent at the end as well...

Peter Elliot. I am more a Steve Ovett and Seb Coe sort of man. Too old for Steve Cram even.

I guess the fact I slowed suggests I did go out too fast, although I was very measured and was purposely holding myself back over the first few miles.

I had considered some mental exhaustion as I thought I was following the same route as when I ran my previous half-marathon distance, but realised around the 9 mile mark I was only 2.5 miles or so from home so had to incorporate some detours to get up to the required distance!

Aims - in terms of running - none really as it's has been about losing weight and still is. However, I am interested in how quick I can run 5k in - it's an intriguing distance as it feels like a controlled sprint. I'd like to get my 10km below 50 mins and half-marathon below 2 hours. As there is absolutely no structure or specialised training to what I'm doing, I accept I'm not giving myself the best chance of improvement. Maybe when I get to a weight I'm happy with, I'll become more focused.

Have you thought about joining a running club? It's made a big difference to me. Like you I started a bit of running to lose some timber, struggled at first to run even a 5k.

Having the structure of organised meetings where people have a plan (and experience) certainly helped (as has the support on this thread).

My target this year is to go sub 50 for 10k. Managed 1:57 in the Brighton half, which meant I hit my target for that distance.

I can't get down to Brighton, but may do my local Park Run. I'll post my time if I do for a little virtual competition ;)

Yeah, [MENTION=30744]Pembury[/MENTION] smashed it in just over 4 hours and I trundled round in just under 5. Was a bit grim at times in the wind and fog, but the cake tent at the end made up for it [emoji3]

I'll probably be there on Saturday, hopefully feeling it a bit more than I did on the Saturday just gone. Just over 22 and a half mins, and I was trying to stick with 21s.

Prep for IOW marathon started yesterday (wimped out of the rain/wind on Sunday) with a run up to the Youth Hostel north of Shoreham-by-Sea. It was so good the first time, I decided to go back for more. 16 miles in 2:30hr - lovely morning for it, too...

Yep, should be there Saturday. Not sure if I can get much quicker than 21:30 at the moment, haveneeded something to motivate me since the marathon - maybe it's the NSC challenge that can get me going again!

Truleigh Hill ? Up the river path from Shoreham to Botolphs then across the road and up (and up and up ?). That hill is in the Three Forts Marathon.....long out and back section from Botolphs to Devils Dyke and back. Tough !

I have done it that way, but I stuck to the road on Sunday morning – as I usually do. Coming from East Shoreham, heading up all the way up Mill Hill from the Upper Shoreham Road, then back down again. And back up again. For once I didn't mind doing the same route twice - it became a bit of a mission for me. For some longer runs in the lead up to IOW, I'll go the route you suggested, and onto DD, etc I reckon. Last time I did it I was on a bike as a kid, and – not really knowing that part of the world – wondered where exactly I'd ended up, when I got to the pub!

Cool - just keep going along the SDW.......stop when you get to Eastbourne. :thumbsup: Love it along there.

Not sure about Eastbourne – not yet, anyway – but will defo do some of that route. So many people keep saying how good it is to run off-road, I should really give it a go. Nice and light early in the mornings now, too, which makes a difference along there.

I realise in a thread filled with marathon heroes and running gurus this is a LITTLE pathetic....but I've been signed up to do the Brighton half next Feb.

I've never run more than 5k and even then I didn't like it and found it difficult. Breathing wasn't so much the issue. It was just LEG tiredness and sheer BOREDOM. I'm a lanky so and so and felt tightness in my legs quite early.

Anyway, whats the best way to train for this? Is it simply running my 3 mile comfort zone at the moment and then add a mile a month? or is that far to softly softly?

Again, apologies for the pathetic nature of my post. I can't even claim this is an "amazing challenge" as I'm not "overweight" or "old"..... So really I'm just a wimp.
