Diane Abbott ... I've always rated her very highly and she ticks quite a few of the quota boxes, so important in politics these days

Can you imagine what she would be like at PM question time when she actually has to say something? Currently gagged so she doesn’t embarrass Corbyn and the rest of the Labour Party.

The Tory government has been so disastrous yet Labour has been unable to take advantage because leadership has been equally dreadful. If a moderate such as Hilary Benn/Yvette Cooper et al was at the helm Labour would be much more electable. Unlikely to happen unfortunately and Labour may well head back into the oblivion we suffered in the horrendous world of Thatcherite Britain. The thought of 5 years of Boris is truly frightening and I pray for a Christmas miracle!

It was and is all in the hands of the hard left who now have control of the party. So hellbent on their agenda and failing to tackle antisemitism until key Labour figures were screaming at them, they’d rather stick to their guns than do a John Smith and give themselves a genuine chance. Madness based on doctrine and the politics of envy.

It'll be nice if Labour popped down their local showroom and picked out a nice new Kia Starmer, in the morning.

The ultimate Billy Big Bollox move by Corbyn to screw over Johnson.

This is a potential election winning move IMO, the labour parties last chance as a significant party.

Hopefully the conservative party will slide down the rankings to SWP levels too soon.

Vive la revolution!

Would like to know what odds you can get on Starmer, let's face Jezza is merely a puppet leader similar to what you got behind the Iron Curtain. He has flipped flopped all over Brexit. In,out, yes,no make your mind up.

His unlikely rise to Labour Leader, wouldn’t prevent the loss of Labour seats in the Brexit heartlands of the Midlands, Wales and North. For obvious reasons.
Genuine question:-

What obvious reasons?

I've only seen him a couple of times at the Dispatch Box and I know he's a smart grafter not Old Etonian.
But beyond that I don't know much about the fella, he just seems to be 'decent' which in the current climate is plenty good enough for me.

his chancellor will be McDonnell, and plans for 500bn off budget spending programme. great for the first term, has to be paid for some time.

Momentum will apparently get enough MPs into PLP to ensure a suitably hard left candidate will make the ballot. then down whether membership and unions want more of the same or change, they can know right now.

I'm not convinced about the first part of this. I'm not currently seeing loads of viable hard left candidates, fewer still if labour are wiped out. Plus fewer MP's to get a lefty to the threshold. The ones in cabinet, Abbott, McDonnell are going to strongly associated with the result so may not get any support if it goes badly for them.

I had a flutter a couple of years ago on Burgon at 80s and I haven't given up on that. There will be a huge push for a woman though, and it wouldn't surprise me in the end to see an all woman shortlist of about 2 or 3 with maybe Rayner getting the nod

The OP judged a post GE world where JC will retire, after another election defeat. The vast majority of people according to the polls on his non-effectiveness and the bookies have him down as losing again. I guess there’s an element of simply wondering what might’ve been with a moderate agenda and someone like Starmer, Benn, Cooper or Kinnock at the helm.

You could’ve been looking at being three years in a New Labour type government right now.

You guessed completely wrongly.

Starmer is obviously very pro Remain. Whilst the Labour seats in South Yorkshire and beyond are very pro Brexit.

That’s all.

So we should trust the Tories with their recent impressive run of fiscal management?

Oh right, thanks.
I thought you might be alluding to something a little more sinister.
