We are expecting a huge college football game tonight so the city was at almost 90% capacity, everywhere was full. I was out here yesterday during the day and there were parades, marching bands, thousands of people on the street celebrating the Sugar Bowl.

Just wanted to emphasize that January 1 is the usual day of multiple college (gridiron) football games. The Sugar Bowl is one of those games. It is part of the college football national championship tournament.

The show must go on. Good or Bad?

7:45 p.m. US Central time Sugar Bowl game time (Chicago time) is 1:45 a.m. GMT (January 2)

EDIT: THE SUGAR BOWL COLLEGE (GRIDIRON) FOOTBALL GAME HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO THURSDAY!

Sugar Bowl postponed: New Orleans truck attack pushes Georgia vs. Notre Dame game to Thursday

Officials decided to postpone 2025 Sugar Bowl for 24 hours amid discussions with authorities at multiple levels

In the wake of a New Year's attack on Bourbon Street that resulted in at least 10 deaths, the scheduled Sugar Bowl matchup for Wednesday night has been postponed, New Orleans district attorney Jason Williams told CBS's WWL-TV. The College Football Playoff quarterfinal game between 2-seed Georgia and 7-seed Notre Dame is now scheduled to be played Thursday, Jan. 2 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

In light of the early-morning attack in New Orleans, Atlanta police released the following statement regarding heightened security measures ahead of the Peach Bowl (Texas vs. Arizona State):

"We acknowledge the concerns raised following the events earlier this morning in New Orleans, LA. In advance of the Peach Bowl, the Atlanta Police Department had already implemented increased security measures, including the deployment of additional officers. In light of today's development and as an added precaution, specialized units and additional personnel will be further deployed to the Downtown and Midtown areas to ensure the continued safety and security of residents and visitors."

Additionally, officials in Pasadena bolstered security for the Rose Parade and Wednesday afternoon's Rose Bowl to the highest possible levels, they said.

Some may know Pasadena, near Los Angeles, as the setting of the TV show "The Big Bang Theory."

Whether the bugger was waving a flag or not, at least he is dead. Good. Shame he had to take so many people with him - condolences to friends and families of all the victims.

As above, the Sugar Bowl College Football (gridiron) game has been postponed 24 hours.

I wonder what that does to many Notre Dame football fans who traveled from all over the country but many, many from Indiana & Illinois.

University of Notre Dame, South Bend (actually Notre Dame) Indiana https://www.google.com/maps/place/Notre+Dame,+IN+46556/@41.6319351,-86.8714404,10z/data=!4m6!3m5!1s0x8816cd4ed75893d5:0xc283e0a53ddeef9c!8m2!3d41.7001908!4d-86.2379328!16zL20vMDN5bTRu?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI0MTIxMS4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw==

EDIT: Authorities in New Orleans are telling everyone there to stay in place. Today is not a day for sightseeing in a very beautiful city while they wait out the 24 hour delay.

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
This one intrigues me, I saw people going on about that on SM but have also seen pictures/videos where there clearly isn't a flag.
BBC reporting as below

Islamic State group flag found in vehicle, FBI says published at 18:25 18:25Breaking

A flag for the Islamic State group (IS) was found in the pickup truck driven into a crowd of people early this morning, according to the FBI.

In a statement online, the FBI confirms 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar was shot dead at the scene after exchanging fire with law enforcement at the scene.

and what looks like a flag on the back of, what I assume, is the truck.

The Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California will take place as scheduled today as ESPN just announced at the halftime of the Peach Bowl telecast.

Awful scenes. Lot of time for NOLA after a wonderful trip there in 2018.

Very real fear of dread came over me when seeing this news, as a lad I met at the Raiders game in Vegas last month was partying on Bourbon St last night. Heard back from him in the last hour and, thankfully, him and his girlfriend left the area about 20mins before the attack happened.

Is this one of Elon Musk’s kids?

At least it's not one of Fabian Hürzeler's kids. (Texas) He's much too young but we all already know that criticism.

What the feck is going on?

You’ll notice since the killing of the United Healthcare CEO , Musk has been carrying one of his kids around in public on his shoulders which is very odd. Using his kid as a human shield

Shamsud Din Jabbar, US citizen born in Texas.

He is a converted muslim but former NBA great player and a co-pilot in the film "Airplane" Karem Abdul Jabbar (now currently doing public service announcements about the heart issue A-fib) has the surname Jabbar.

Not KAJ's birthname though.

Correct. Changed his name from Lew Alcindor during his NBA basketball career when he became a muslim convert.
