Diversification into areas of business they know nothing about is unrealistic and unwise.

How this business venture is supposed to make BHA financially secure for years to come (as is being reported) is unclear.

It also goes against the grain of what the club suggested when it was pleading its case with local residents. Poor show.

Yeah, it isn't like they can hire anyone to manage and oversee these new ventures. What are they thinking.

I think it could work, with all the students at the UNi and if there family's come down to see them the Amex would be ideal, away teams staying as well, weddings, and with a night bus running to the uni could be good for youngsters as well

No more spaces than there are currently in the Bridge car park so that won't be happening.

I would VERY surprised if the AMEX capacity isn't increased in the next five years.

I feel pretty good about this: was worried that hotels next to football grounds hadn't worked but having seen plenty of examples where it had - and bearing in mind the shortage of Brighton hotel rooms, should be a winner.

I don't know why people are saying that people won't stay in the middle of nowhere. About 15 -20 years ago I worked for a company whose management training sessions were held in hotel in Oxfordshire about 15 miles from the nearest station - my taxi bill was more than £20 just getting to the place. And that hotel did a lot of conference business.

I'd love to see the Amex developed as a rugby venue: there was a thread on here a few weeks ago about the merging of Brighton and Hove rugby clubs. Not sure that's a goer but would love to see top-class rugby down here.

I'm also intrigued by Mark by the Sea's comment on the Argus site, that what's happening next is even more exciting but is sworn to secrecy. Hasn't he got a good track record of being in the know?

I thought the club had said it wasn't physically possible to expand any further ? Then again they denied any plans for a hotel during the planning battle !

Classic Bloom. We're fretting over a new loan striker whilst he's sat there working on yet another wildly ambitious multi-million investment plan!

There's massive demand for hotels in Brighton, hence the numbers of news ones built in the last few years. Especially so with car parking, plus it'll have good public transport links. Winner.

There's massive demand for student accomodation in the city, as the trend is increasingly for students to stay in student accomodation rather than rent houses from private landlords, hence the newish student blocks at falmer and the co-op development on the London Road. Winner.

There's also plenty of demand for match-day parking at the Amex. Winner. Might this also operate as a park & ride site on non-match days? Double winner!

ps Maybe it's just me, but the soul of this club seems to be being eroded by the continual yabba coming out the club concerning securing lucrative new revenue streams & aspirational business plans. Call me old fashioned, but they seem a million miles away from a so-called community football club. I realise the stadium, staff & new training facilities need to be paid for: but it sure ain't what I envisaged when folk were marching for Falmer & doing all they could to secure the future of the football club they loved. A Soccerball experience with Brighton Express here we come...

Soccerball experience, we lost our cheerleaders lol. I like this idea, if it means our club will be financially sound. Who knows what the future might hold. I always thought this bubble would burst one day in football, but it hasn't. Whilst it's like this, at least we are not standing still. Being a Brighton supporter for 36 years we have never been in a better place facility wise.

The thing is there isn't unlimited opportunity to expand the number of conferences. You can only do it out of season and on definite international breaks. Imagine if we'd had the JoHos booked in for Monday 28th October because we were *definitely* playing Watford on the Friday

Well then we wouldn't have been able to move to the Monday would we?

Seems similar to what Norwich did. They built a hotel (or sold land for one) on their car park. The hotel in this case connects to the ground for functions.
