[Film] Most underrated movie

Whilst not underrated or panned critically, after watching The Banshees of Inisherin last night I feel The Calvary (by the other brother McDonagh) is superior.
They make a fantastic double bill if you have a free day or evening.

Two films worth mentioning, both well regarded at the time but don't seem to be spoken about much these days that I love are Ghostdog: The Way of The Samurai and Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. Colons coincidental.

Had I not been in a bit of a tizzy about this thread I might have joined in with the misappropriation of the word 'underrated' and recommended The Guard.

But I don't see how any film staring Brendon Gleeson and Danny Welbeck can be 'underrated'.

Loads of great performances - in my opinion. And Patricia Arquette is just gorgeous as Alabama.

The Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken Sicilian scene is incredible.

I have the DVD which has an alternative ending (Tarantino's original ending), where Clarence (Christian Slater) dies. The director believed the audience would fall in love with these two main characters and would want them to live and get away with the money. The director was right.

Although he's not in it for long, it's one of Walkens best characters, and one of my favourite quotes.
"You tell the angels in heaven you've never seen evil so singularly personified as you did in the face of the man who killed you."

Gary Oldman is amazing as Drexl as well.

Loads of good recommendations here, including Locke which I watched yesterday on Prime.
It‘s an unusual film that has no right to work, but it does. Possibly because it didn’t outstay its welcome in terms of length, which so many films do.

Gary Oldham's character is like some pastiche comic book villain played with all the credibility and acting prowess typically associated with the Rottingdean Am Dram Society. The years have not been kind to TR.

His films couldn't be more hammy (which I appreciate is deliberate but just irritates the hell out of me). Most overrated writer/director of all time. Each to their own though of course.

I'm not actually 100% sure how a good film I like gets underrated by whoever rates it but one of my favourite films that I presume didn't get any oscar nominations was Waterworld it was just hilariously mental, and I still pop it in the Betamax now and then.

I can't remember why it was roundly booed by the critics of the day but I love it,casting Hopper as the baddy was genius and i make sure every guest we have gets a Waterworld première when they stay

Tarantino isn’t 'overrated', you simply don’t like his style, which is fair enough. He’s made a couple of turkeys but also some of the most remarkable and enduring movies of recent decades IMO. I cant stand all the Marvel and Star Wars stuff myself but would never call it overrated. It’s simply not for me.

I think he's tended towards self indulgence in later films (esp Kill Bills), but Reservoir Dogs and Jackie Brown are superb.
