The Taking of Pelham 123 - not the later remake but the 1974 original
not panned, but nobody ever makes a fuss about it.
I’m not the sort of person to watch a film over and over again, but this I could.
Robert Shaw and Walter Matthau both on absolutely top form, Shaw on chilling form as Mr Blue.

They got some critical acclaim but have mostly been ignored. Most people have never heard of them.

I loved Locke. No other actor could have played that role I don’t think

The Star Wars.

So underrated it was even set up for a sequel which never got made.
Were it to be released now I'm sure they'd have made a sequel or two, perhaps even a TV series and maybe even an action figure.

I recently discovered the films of Mexican director Alejandro G Iñárritu whose most famous film is The Revenant, but these other films of his are all definitely worth a watch:

Ip Man - Brilliant film.
A Good Year - feel good film. Watched so many times.

I really enjoy a good year, partly because of my love of provence but Rafe Spall's performance is really poor IMO. One blemish on an otherwise great film

True Romance - a 'box office failure' according to Wikipedia, but probably my favourite film.



Loads of great performances - in my opinion. And Patricia Arquette is just gorgeous as Alabama.

The Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken Sicilian scene is incredible.

I have the DVD which has an alternative ending (Tarantino's original ending), where Clarence (Christian Slater) dies. The director believed the audience would fall in love with these two main characters and would want them to live and get away with the money. The director was right.

Fair enough, I had no idea. It was certainly underrated in Switzerland, where I was living at the time. I was literally the only person in the cinema, as was often the case for my regular Monday evening visits. Must have given me a skewed idea of what impression a movie was making in the great world beyond.

A couple of others that come to mind, both with Timothy Spall—
The Party
The Last Bus.

Again, neither made a big splash in Switzerland.

Whilst not underrated or panned critically, after watching The Banshees of Inisherin last night I feel The Calvary (by the other brother McDonagh) is superior.
They make a fantastic double bill if you have a free day or evening.

Two films worth mentioning, both well regarded at the time but don't seem to be spoken about much these days that I love are Ghostdog: The Way of The Samurai and Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. Colons coincidental.

Darkest of dark comedies that is deeply disturbing for all kinds of reasons.

I love the opening scene.
