BN1 and BN2 are the ouward part of the postcode that Brighton uses.

Blimey, four Nottinghamshire postcodes in the top 20 - that makes it look an attractive county. And is it really true that there's no Liverpool area in the top 20 most robbed places?

Nothing worth robbing...or maybe it is where all the robbers live...remember the sayings about shitting on your own doorstep and honour amongst thieves, maybe this stretches as far as not stealing from each other!

(If my stereotyping of scousers as robbing bastards offends anyone...I will set Stevie G on ya!!!)

Bit misleading to describe NG2 as "West Bridgford". West Bridgford (ie south of Trent Bridge and the City Ground) is quite nice. My sister's lived there for decades and never had a problem.

However...

NG2 also stretches north of the Trent all the way up to (and including) Nottingham railway station. And that bit is mostly the Meadows estate, which is where most of East Midlands' burglars live. Horrible place.

That's an interesting point. There seems to be a bit of a mixture here between pretty well-off places (Fulham, Clapham/Battersea, Roundhay), some not-so posh (Walthamstow, Croydon) and a mixture (Hove, West Bridgeford). What's missing are the very run-down (Toxteth, Croxteth, Chapeltown Leeds,, Butterworth, Bradford and many places in London).

It's amazing that nowhere in Wales or Scotland features in the list - I couldn't walk down the street in the Gurnos estate outside Merthyr without thinking that my shadow would be nicked.

And what happened to Leeds 6 - I remember years ago that this featured on the list of the most burgled places, have all the students moved to Rounday now?

Where?

I lived in south London for 20 years - including a spell on the Clapham/Battersea border and it's wall-to-wall wine bars, restaurants, delis and interior design shops. There's a small estate off Northcote Rd and some dodgy streets near Clapham North on the way to Stockwell/Brixton (although that's mainly SW2 and SW9) and an estate just north of Clapham Old Town. While they're more run-down than the rest of the rather chi-chi area, they're scarcely rough.

You should try Peckham, Hackney, Harlesden, Bermondsey and most of east London if you want rough estates.

winstanley estate off falcon road, the estates off battersea park road, i guarantee you they arent wall to wall deli's etc and are as rough as anythng you'll find in the places you've mentioned, sounds to me that you spent most of your time in battersea around the northcote, which is i grant you, wall to wall wine bars , i f***ing hate the place as it is now, i can remember it in the seventies and eighties when there was a proper market there, i live on the peabody off of the junction, whereabout have you lived in south london and what caused you to spend time on these estates making you such an authority? are you basing roughness on looks ?? your "most of east london" comment would suggest this .

I think you'll find that all the scousers are out robbing in this area -CH66 Ellesmere Port, Cheshire. Its around this area that all the footballers live as well and they seemed to be burgled on a monthly basis.

Absolutely right, and whatsmore, I used to live in the Meadows. :yahoo: :yahoo:

I actually saw people throwing nappies onto the streets in that place. Lovely.

in a lot of places people think its pointless reporting it to the police, i lived in birmingham for years and was burgled 3 times, didnt bother informing the coppers for times 2 and 3.

Yep, I did live quite near Northcote Rd - I can't say I liked it much though. It was far too smooth for my tastes, no decent boozers there for a start.

I know the Winstanley estate though and honestly don't think it's that bad. I don't know the estates off the Battersea Park Road but I've walked down that road many times and never felt threatened. But one part that is dodgy, that I quite forgot about, is the off the Wandsworth Rd on the way to Nine Elms - that looks quite desolate, but I think that's SW8.

I don't think I'm an "authority" . I was just remarking that I lived in the area and didn't feel that any of the places were particularly rough. I was brought up in Moulsecoomb and none of the places around SW11 felt any worse than the Scoomb - which is my guideline. However, there are parts of London where I've felt decidedly nervous and really wouldn't walk around at night - never felt that in SW11, that's all. And I wasn't having a go, I was just curious as to where you thought was bad.

BTW, I agree about the way that the place has gone downhill. I moved to Balham in 1984 when it was really run down and the place changed beyond belief in 15 years, don't like the place much now.

But this is most burgled - would you rob a decent house in a decent part of town or a shitehole in a run down estate. So looking for the roughest estate is a bit of a misconception here, I'd rob the posh houses - more booty and less chance of getting a kicking if caught.
I would like to point out this is hypothetical I am not and have never been a robber! So to me Battersea,/Maidenhead etc are obvious pretty afluent but close to undesirable areas.

all thats happened is that battersea was "gentrified" a lot earlier than other places due to its close proximity to chelsea and the west end, the rough estates are still there you just didnt have an reason to venture onto them, the same thing is now happening in the likes of deptford and peckham,i know balham , i was born in st georges and lived in tooting , good old bedford hill !! dont think there are still all the brasses there ! i cant believe a scoomber would get nervous walking round south london :lolol:

How does being born at St Georges make you an expert on Balham? My kids were born there, but neither of them have never known poverty. Come to think of it, I don't think anybody on this board has any idea of hardship and hard knocks. Except you, obviously. Thankfully for the rest of us, you're an expert on it.

How do they measure "most burgled"?

The number of occurrences reported? In which case, it might be a league table of insurance scams. Or is it the value of the stuff that is nicked? In which case, where is BN8? My fellow aristocrat out here at Firle, Lord Gage, had a MILLION QUID's worth of crockery nicked the other day. The poor chap is having to eat off paper plates.
