Millwall Scarf Day!

The home match with Millwall on Saturday 13th January has been designated as a special "scarf day", when supporters are encouraged to bring an Albion scarf to the game.

To help promote the initiative, the Club Shop is giving away a free scarf with every adult ticket bought in January for the clash with the Lions.

That's right! Buy an adult ticket for the game and you will receive a voucher which can be exchanged for a free blue and white bar scarf from the Mobile Shop on matchday.

In addition, blue and white scarves will also be available to purchase at the game at a one-off special price of £2.50.

Tickets can be purchased at the Ticket Office, 5 Queens Road, Brighton; by calling the Ticketline on 01273 776992 or click here to buy online.

Nb. The free scarf offer and one-off price offer apply to standard blue and white "bar scarves" only. Offer applies whilst stocks last and no other shop discounts apply. Other scarves may be available at normal prices.

Count me in.

Should we also see if the club can get hold of the "Put your hands up for Brighton" track that Fatboy used on NY day to play before the match?

Just spoken to a Millwall fan in the office. This has now made one of their boards and apparently they're pissing themselves.

We do bring this laughing stock reputation upon ourselves I feel. Songs such as 'Come and get it up the arse', and '1-0 to the nancy boys', do not come across as ironic to the average football fan. We are simply fanning their flames. You can usually here the entire away section laughing. Singing songs like that is only going to encourage the poof songs in return.

'Scarf day' does sound a bit bent.

its true but I reckon you will get slaughtered on here for that. Thing is that its all very funny singing these gay songs etc and everyone pointing at people that dont like it as being homophobic but in reality it just makes us look a load of numptys. Its not big , funny or clever really

I think it is important to make a game or two stand out from the rest. Attendances are dropping and we need to be ready to attract the next generation for WHEN we finally move into Falmer. The partial success of the family stand has shown that new fans are willing to come, they just need an incentive.

All we need then is a winning team...the only thing that will put bums on seats.

I don't think I could disagree more strongly, to be honest - I can't think of a better way of demonstrating to some small-minded morons that their insults aren't sticking - unless they ARE sticking in some people's cases, of course, in which case the best thing to do is to get in a right strop about it: that'll calm it down. :dunce:

Sorry BOF have to disagree about the family stand many people sitting there have been moved from the south stand which they did not want to do and a significant amount did not renew their ST.

Which has left large rows of empty seats in the south stand this season.

I would however complement the club on the admission prices for familys.

The scarf thing does sound 'gay' but I will have mine twirling around my head! Could'nt the flag be used as well to drum up some passion?

This is taken from Ben Walmsleys Albion website today:

Q: Where did you get the idea of holding a scarf day at Withdean?

I have some friends who are members of 'The Unity' who are a non-violent ultras group who support Borussia Dortmund. A few times a season they put on fan displays in their stadium which have to be seen to be believed. I thought that if we can recreate just a smidgen of that show of support for our team for the game with Millwall then just maybe the team will respond and the fans might enjoy themselves.

Q: The idea has certainly been greeted with support from Albion fans, but do you believe this really could be the solution to creating a better atmosphere at the often quiet Withdean?

We're always bemoaning the lack of atmosphere at Withdean but rarely do people suggest a realistic solution. This is such a simple idea, it might not work but if it doesn't at least I can say I tried something.

Q: Are the club getting involved?

Indeed they are. They are giving away a free scarf to anyone who buys a ticket for the game and for the scarfless season ticket holders amongst us you will be able to buy a blue and white bar scarf outside the ground for just £2.50! I'm also hoping for Dean Wilkins to come out before the match resplendent with scarf and kick proceedings off with a fancy overhead twirl of said scarf. He could open a tin can with his left foot so this easy task should be well within his capabilities.

Q: How many people are you anticipating will be involved?

Well, in my head I'd like the whole ground to be involved. Not just with a bit of scarf twirling but with a barage of songs, swaying from side to side in Scandinavian style and pretty much any show of fan culture aside from the dreaded Mexican wave. Realistically however, it depends on how apathetic the fans are on the day. I'm just hoping people see this as a chance to do something positve and enjoy themselves. I'm also hoping it's a freezing cold day so supporters simply have to wear a scarf and the whole thing will look as though it's gone swimmingly well.

Since then the club have added that:

Meanwhile, schools and groups can get fantastic prices for this game. With tickets at just £1 for children under 10, £6 for 10 to 15 year-olds and £12 for all accompanying adults, there is a considerable saving from normal match day prices.

Plus, each child purchasing a ticket as part of this group deal will receive a blue and white bar scarf free. For more details please contact Vicky Edwards on 01273 695400.

Also for those season ticket holders who have quite reasonably asked about their scarves. Insider has responded thus:

Season-ticket holders can buy scarves at cost price. The idea was to support the cause while also increasing ticket sales. Had we given the scarf to all season ticket holders it would have cost us over £10k (I'm sure you'll agree that this is money which could be better spent elsewhere).

Now then, I have a dilemma. Do I take my 1983 scarf. the 2000 scarf, the 2002 Champions scarf or my newest fleecy scarf?
