Amen to all of that..,...
'Emergency COBRA Prime Minister? Shindig on Sunday cancelled then.'It's ok everyone Boris Johnson has called an emergency COBRA meeting to discuss it.
On Monday, once he's had his weekend.
On the other hand, according to National Geographic, anally about 2,000 people are killed worldwide by lightning"
Hopefully the worldwide efforts will prove enough to stop millions dying, but if they don't put in the effort then it's certain that many millions will die.
Exactly. It does stand to reason, if you do nothing. Maybe even if you do something. Millions of deaths does sound extreme, but infection rates have been suggested as having the potential to reach 60-80% of the global population. If it hits just 10%, that is 780 million, of which 1% (best case) is 7.8 million deaths globally.
That's because China aren't putting in no effort, they're not even only putting in a bit of effort, they're putting in herculean efforts. They've closed a city of 11 million people for a start.None of this fits the fact that reported cases in China are going down
After there are enough people here who are infected, that shutting the ports makes no difference. At what point do we shut down the airports and ports.
Careful, you'll get accused of really unhelpful sensationalismEither we do nothing, and it will spread to every town in the world and kill a load of people
How is your mental health at the moment?Closure of ports would be 5 weeks too late. The only way we can now manage this is to enforce strict curfews, closure of all businesses (except food and pharmaceutical) one member per family to leave house every few days for supplies. Every visitor to the country must self isolate for 24 days or risk fines. No time for PC powder puff in a crisis like this. We need to act otherwise we are all going to lose loved ones. People before profit.

And would you say that’s a proportionate response? Surely the massive recession (if this sort of plan was enacted world wide) would kill far more people than the virus itself!
Well I'm glad it's better than it was. Do you not think it would be good for you to stay away from news about the virus though? Apart from the suggestion that the virus does not appear to be much concern for othewise healthy young children, which should give you comfort. Not great, I'm back to work after 2 weeks off and on medication (propranolol) to help manage my symptoms. Better then what I was 4-6 weeks ago.
I'd go harder then that, but I called for border closures on 20th Jan and I'm a remainer.
So you’d be happy with people starving?
I think that's extremely unlikely. Although I don't agree with Guiness Boy's general downplaying of the virus, I would agree that doing too much (closing all borders weeks ago) would actually lead to more deaths due to the extent of the global recession it would cause. As you say, people before profit, but it does require money to keep a lot of people alive.Yes that's proportionate, this will kill hundreds of millions.
