You can't see the issue? At all? The issue is that it's a gradual decline into people deepthroating each other! A neighbour sees people with mates round, doesn't notice whether they're social distancing or not, their neighbour then has a big party and so on. Same with sitting in the park. One person had a break from their run, the next has a sandwich. Soon you've got twenty people having a barbecue.

Groups of people out in their front gardens and on pavements, here. VEing (lots of union flags out). I don't like the look of it.

One of our friends (who is Japanese) has next door neighbours in the front garden having a party with visitors. One of the neighbours' kids has drug and mental health problems. Our friend is frightened. We told her to call the police. She won't, though, for fear of reprisals. Not right, is it?

If the government didn't want it to happen then they should have just moved the big dos to next year. Who really cares if it's 75 or 76 years anyway? Probably the only issue is that more veterans would die in between. But we've seen fly pasts, 2 minutes silence, bunting and Royal speeches. It's little wonder we carry on regardless.

But I'm sure it would be safer to socialise in your garden with known friends then do the weekly shop anyway.

"HI Geoff, we'd love you and the kids to come over but you'll have to stay 2 meters apart. You've not got corona have you?"
"Sure, that's be great, we will and no, no one has got it"

Is just a wee bit more safe than picking up loads of shopping that has been handled by randoms while fat idiots in leisure wear ignore the one way system and spacing lines.

That argument only works if you're going to eat your friends. Food shopping is essential.

^ I have noticed just lately, they seem to be mentioning that the virus is mild for the vast majority I’ve heard it said at least 3 times at the press conference in the last week, this certainly wasn’t the case a few weeks ago. It’s one of those, I think the only way to make people stay in is to scare people, otherwise it could have been bedlam it’s a tough call.

Nah, they've always said it.

Sounded like there was a festival going on just round the corner from me, must must proper speakers, someone I know, who lives about 180 metres road up the road, thought it was loud from there.

Shame there wasn’t a ‘clap’ organised like we have for the NHS.

Loads of people out and about round my way and loads in their front gardens for VE Day. Next door have people round but are just about 2 metres apart in the front garden. A couple of Dorises in the next road along have clearly been told by their husbands that they have 2 metre cocks, so poor is their grasp of social distancing.

However, I do also remember that the weekend before lockdown most people were in and social distancing anyway. I think the breakdown in lockdown is simply pre-empting Sunday's announcement and I really can't see the issue with friendship groups meeting in gardens so long as the distance is maintained.

We were invited to a “front garden socially-distanced VE Day celebration” today by a near-neighbour.

We didn’t go because we were being lazy in our own back garden (Tory).

However later in the afternoon I walked to our local Tesco Express to try to buy the things that our big Tesco didn’t have when I went there for the weekly shop last night. I go there late in the evening as it’s really quiet. The sacrifice is there are some empty shelves.

My walk took me past the front garden in question and there were a few people there, appropriately distanced. However there were drinks and scones and the like that need to be handed from one person to another.

Was it safe? Almost certainly so. But multiply that across the whole country and it’s hard to believe there wouldn’t have been virus spread from such meet-ups in the U.K. today.

I’ll be honest m, I was very tempted to return with some beers and wine. To sit on a front garden wall distanced from others, and share drinks and chat in the sun felt like an amazing thing to be able to do.

Let me just stop you there.

I can't prove that you're not going to be eaten by a mutant star goat later this evening. Just think about that!

Yes I get it, you who blindly believe in the big business lobby are very intelligent and superior etc since that's what it says in the newspaper headline beneath "man destroys man".

just when you were wondering how the **** we got johnson , trump and our bloke morrison in charge all at once and how could it get any worse , we now have the biggest political football ever thrown into the mix with this virus..........watching the global response to it is like watching a load of 4 year olds trying to stab a turd in a potty with a bit of lego.......the politicians , on the whole , are hopelessly out of their depths..........its just a complete head **** , none of the figures add up and there are far too many contradicting agenda globally........i can't help thinking that , unfortunately , it will just end up as survival of the fittest , if we keep vaccinating against progressively stronger viruses we will be left with no naturally occurring immunity and are beholden to sqillionaires for all eternity to develop , administer and charge us for progressively more toxic vaccinations..........worth noting that , it is a well known fact , Big Bill does not vaccinate his family..........mad times..

current , confirmed cases globally 3.7 million.

That wasn't my point. Yes, you HAVE to shop, but it carries more risk than chatting to someone whose health you can check up on, outside from 2 metres away. So why is the latter wrong?

We'll see if it results in a mini spike. If not I would hope it will allow social "bubbles". If it does we could be tightening up.

'Coronavirus rate of transmission is increasing, says chief government statistician'
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...umber-rate-deaths-cases-nhs-a9504496.html?amp

'Professor Ian Diamond told the Downing Street press conference: “That is driven by the epidemic in care homes. That gives us a real challenge.”

Sorry for the slightly old (2 days ago) link, but only just seen it and not seen it discussed - tho may well have missed it.

Anybody think that hmgov's (in)actions re care homes are verging on a national scandal? These are some of the most vulnerable members of society. Also some of the immobile. They ain't going anywhere in a hurry. We as a society are supposed to be shielding them. Are we f***. If we were shielding them, we'd strictly control who goes in and out, rigorously test the carers on a frequent basis and provide them with the PPE they need. And we certainly wouldn't be discharging coronavirus patients from hospital directly into care care. That's not a challenge, it's just basic common sense. Sake!
