The cost of parking your vehicle on Madeira Drive subsidises the cost of clearing up the mess of illegal camp sites once the caravans have gone. Voting Green has its consequences.
Tourists will vote with their feet, or wheels, or more likely their pockets. NCP are as bad, I think it is now £25 to park in Churchill Square if staying more than 6 hours. So any day trippers who fancy a bit of shopping in the square or the Lanes, then a spot of lunch and a walk on the prom get rippied off for the privelege (sp) of spending their money in our city.
We, and the council, need to realise that our economy is built on tourism.
Wait until the tourists make a u-turn......This all helps to maintain Brighton & Hove's status as a popular tourist destination.
Does anyone actually support this policy apart from the policy makers themselves?
Yep. I went to a meeting at the Amex on Monday, where the Council unveiled plans for a vastly improved bus service along the Lewes Road. Increased capacity on the 25s, new services direct to Brighton Station, new buses, more frequent services, many new bus shelters in Coldean, Moulsecoomb and Bevendean, bus lanes in both directions to speed up journey times, real time information signs at more bus stops, re-design of traffic signals and junctions (including the Vogue Gyratory), wider cycle lanes, new off-road cycle routes, better pedestrian crossings. The only justification I've heard for the preposterous policies on parking and parking permits is that it funds investment into public transport. Anyone seen any major improvements lately?
So after a year of a Green Council and two years with a Green MP we still have huge environmental issues around things like refuse collection and recycling (absolutely no change or improvement in my neighbourhood) and the only major change that i can see is a ridiculous policy on parking which will drive away tourists and damage local business. The only justification I've heard for the preposterous policies on parking and parking permits is that it funds investment into public transport. Anyone seen any major improvements lately?
Enjoy your seats while you can Green Party, you're on borrowed time.
Brighton seafront parking doubles - and you'll need £20 in change From The Argus)
PS Yes, sadly I did vote Green

They've started work already, but it will be two years before the project is finished.
Anything that reduces traffic congestion in the city centre makes Brighton a more attractive place to visit. The excellent PlusBus ticket - available from any station in the country - that encourages visitors to arrive by train and get access to the whole of the local bus network (Brighton, Lewes, Newhaven, Seaford, Hove, Shoreham and Steyning) for just £2 a day (£1.35 for railcard holders / £1 for children) is doing the business. Better bus services will enhance the product.Sorry to be pedantic, but which of those proposals will benefit tourists, on which this city relys upon?

How is any of this going to convince us that taking a bus is a better option to driving?.
All it seems is they are trying to increase the car drivers costs and slow their journeys by decreasing car lanes and increasing bus lanes down to make buses seem more appealing rather than offering a better alternative.

If it wasn't working, bus passenger numbers would be dropping. They're not. In Brighton, they are going through the roof. That's why investment in a better network is justified. How is any of this going to convince us that taking a bus is a better option to driving?.
