Have you considered masterly inactivity?

Apologies if I am putting words in your mouth, by trying to second guess which bits you agree with. My guess is that a low tax economy will stimulate growth? This would probably work best with a population biased towards young people of a working age. How do you build a dynamic growing economy heavy with retirees? I realise there are plenty of oldies working and contributing to the economy in many different ways, but there are also huge numbers who can't or choose not to work.

And an ever growing number who are being held back from returning to work by being on a multi-year waiting list for NHS treatment.

Why don’t the Conservatives understand that funding the NHS = reducing economic inactivity caused by long term sickness.

Off the back of the strong showing of a local independent in Rochdale who finished second, there's a local candidate that's standing in Truss' constituency. There's a great article on her linked below. My hunch is she'll lose.

If it came to pass, I would (full-on Keegan) love it, LOVE IT!

(though it obviously wouldn't be her fault if she did)

This is like something out of a comedy show. Slight delay then fumbling around getting the book correct like a kid in the 80s in charge of getting the song words up correctly on the OHP in assembly.

Such an awkward person. I actually feel sorry for her. Should never have been given a job where she was clearly doomed to fail. What were all the others thinking?!

'Part of the problem we faced was a distinct shortage of expert voices supporting our agenda'.

That is indeed priceless. Is there a word for when you whoosh yourself? For when you speak the truth, but utterly fail to realise the significance?
Even after you have proof-read it, published it, and are now trying to defend it to a large audience?

Truss continues to suffer from a toxic combination of ignorance and arrogance, that causes her to be blind to the possibility that the early curtailment of her catastrophic tenure as PM was of her own making.

Today, eighteen months later, she still doesn't see it.....

there's a good point there. the ideal of lower taxes stimulating growth is very good. there's probably a lot of other good ideas about increasing growth. unfourtunatly they dont really work alongside our demographics. and by "our" i mean the west, which have universally fallen in to this low productivity trap. Japan went before us and had essentially multi decade recession which we may well follow. it may well be unfixable, how do you grow an economy when half the population is non-productive. unless something very fundemental changes or we alter expectations?

"I'll just get it up"

Not something she says too often I'll wager.

She edges more right by the week, what a vile human being.

Is that because she's ultra right at heart, or is it because she wants Trump supporters to buy her new book?

Some interesting comments from Peston in his Goalhanger Podcast Liz Truss book rewind economy crash special.

Including:
  • Trying to avoid political points on a money show, he says the long term hit to the UK economy and reputation was far worse than reported
  • The best that can be said about the Truss/Kwateng duo is they were reckless ( neither had much qualification and sacked the in place chief treasury official out of spite ASAP)
  • Ignoring the transition of Brexit, he says the tax cut for growth plan might have had merit (a big ideological if) but was particularly reckless was paying for it by borrowing *after* dramatic interest rate rises following Russia invasion/gas price driven inflation - and while subsidising our heating bills.
  • Anyone could see real-time actually acceleration tax cut paid for by borrowing just because she said she would in her campaign was reckless to an extreme - and the financial markets could see that would cause a run on the pound and selling of government gilts (so damaging UK reputation for credit worthiness and making borrowing even more expensive).
  • Even the Queen (quoted against protocol in LT's book) advised her, as for all her PMs, to try not to rush unnecessarily...
  • LT/KK weren't helped by incompetence of the BoE, that wasn't aware of a vulnerability of pension funds to falling gilt prices.
  • With all this, she still stuck it to 'the establishment' but doing what she said she would in her stupid book and speeches...
  • No PM, least of all Cons., can sack their Chancellor and survive - she went ahead and lasted 2 more days in office., after Jeremy Hunt stepped in to head off full on Weimar republic.
  • Peston asked a question about this stuff and make her cry.
Please let no one forget this stuff

Page 1 - she is on the way to see the Queen. Her and Boris wanted to share the plane (he was resigning), but it was not allowed for security reasons. I'll update if there are any more pearls of wisdom as I work my way through the massive work of literature. It's large font to enable us senior folk to read it.

"I assume it was too much of a security risk to have the outgoing and incoming Prime Ministers on the same plane.".

Make up your own jokes.

I think it should be purely the remit of the MPs to pick their own leader/Prime Minister.

Many of the problems we've had over the last 9 years on both sides seem to have stemmed from both parties having leaders that most of their own MPs didn't want.

It's just wrong that 81k people chose our PM, the position holds such importance and power.

This isn't a new sentiment, I remember Callaghan and Brown facing a furore too, also arrogantly swept aside.

Looks like she's given up channeling Maggie Thatch, and is now channeling Myra Hindley.
