She isn't the only one though. Lovable old Boris is making the same argument. These people don't believe in governance, which is there to hold those in power accountable. As we get closer to the election there will be people parrotting the all politicians are basically the same mantra. Anyone hearing this has to ask;

Who else would have started a war on red tape, watched the Grenfell disaster unfold and then fail to rectify the mess and prosecute the perpetrators a decade later?​
Who else would enable a rogue chief executve to spend £250k of public money to prosecute a post office manager for a 25k accounting discrepancy, which was a result of a known flaw in the companies IT system?​
Who else would have emasculated the regulators to such an extant that our rivers and seas are filthy and our water infrastructure crumbling, our railways are a national disgrace, our gas and electric costs compare unfavourably to any modern country you could name?​
Who else would have defunded and run down our legal system, so that it is at breaking point and then tried to paint the judiciary as some kind of leftie conspiracy cohort?​
Did I mention the trade deals, Nanny state, letting the markets decide? All utterly discredited tosh.
Join the dots backwards and those speaking against anti smoking measures can usually be connected to tobacco industry lobbyists. Many of who are often resident in a Tufton Street office. Or in the case of Priti Patel who once stood up in parliament to condemn cigarette packaging measures, a former PT 'consultant' for the baccy industry. Never bite the hand that previously fed, eh....

Lettuce Liz was very much the Tufton Street trojan horse in Downing Street to enforce their libertarian utopia. Their useful idiot. Most of sane mind expected her to implode before long. I gave her three to six months. I underestimated her incompetence.

Can't argue with that. Once an elected PM falls we elect another one. Leave it to the "jam and jeruselem" mob or Tory MPs and look what you end up with.

I think it should be purely the remit of the MPs to pick their own leader/Prime Minister.

They do pick their own leader. Every single one of them has been picked by the party.

And then we get to vote on which one we want as PM.

It feels to me like this is the obvious outcome of Brexit. The idea was to put the Europe question to bed but it has made it worse. It has split the party completely and has brought out to the open the issue we all knew ie that the Tory party consists of two different elements that have muddled along for power. Boris purged many of the Europhiles but it has brought divisions further to the surface and now the europhobes are splitting into extreme and less extreme.

Basically whoever is PM is stuffed by the party because of something Cameron put in a manifesto expecting to give it away in another coalition agreement.

Liz Truss didn't win a single round of voting amongst Conservative MPs. In all except the final round that eliminated Penny Mordaunt, she came 3rd.

My uncle lives in her constituency and his latest squeeze knows her personally apparently wont have a bad word said about her Liz.

Looking forward to the next family engagement where the clueless moron can explain how precious Liz isn’t accountable at all for my £360 a month mortgage increase or setting back the economy by 10 years.

I would argue that is just another example of how shambolic the tories are. In theory, the parties pick the leader.
Who do you mean by "the parties"?
Both major parties have leadership elections where their members have the final say, which led to Truss (and Corbyn on the Labour side) being elected despite never winning an election among their own MPs. It isn't a weird anomaly.

Agree about Labour but, as to your question, not for me. You don't vote for a PM, you vote for a candidate who is generally the representative of a party in a constituency.
There are more important things to change and/or re-imagine than introducing such an amendment.

You do have to wonder what and who people thought they were voting for in 2019 ???

Truss was the second most experienced minister after Gove, following Johnson's mass dismissal of existing ministers when he was made PM just before the election. (The most extensive Cabinet reorganisation without a change in ruling party in postwar British political history). In a Cabinet purged of any real experience of Government of course she was going to be having a significant effect on the country. And people are now surprised that Johnson, Truss and Sunak have turned out to be corrupt and incompetent ? Who could have known :facepalm:

Maybe they'll put a little more thought and consideration before the next election. Or maybe not :lolol:

I just wish the awful idiot would realise that the game is up for her and crawl under some rock somewhere never to be heard from again.
I caught some of her interview on the Newscast pod this morning and one thing is crystal clear, the women has bullet-proof, iron-clad confidence in a) herself and b) her believe that she is 100% blame-free for the fiasco that was her tenure as PM.

It was actually a remarkable example of a person with absolutely zero self-awareness and accountability. On interest rate rises and collapsing the mortgage market after her mini-budget, her response was basically: "My actions? MY ACTIONS? It was THEIR REACTIONS to my actions that caused the problems. You can't blame me because the markets reacted negatively to my budget"

I’d say a fair few vote for the leader in my experience of one to one convo’s on the subject…although I agree it should be the local candidate…I fail myself on occasion

Speaking as someone living in the UKIP and Reform stronghold capital of SE and Central England with Liz Truss as my MP for the past 13 years (or 7 for me since I moved from Brighton) her endorsing Trump does not surprise me in the slightest. Shame it took the Country the lifetime of lettuce to realise what a incompetent and self-serving, power seeking, poor excuse she is for a people’s representative- she’s done nothing to help local residents in this area imo - a friend of mine worked in her constituency office for several years and never saw her. Residents know we were nothing more than a photo opportunity for someone who always had her eyes on Westminster - one of the most deprived regions in the Country, primary healthcare provision , poverty levels and social mobility below the national average and crumbling rural infrastructure.

Truss is like any other politician who‘s main agenda is to climb to the top - she’s a power tart and she will change her political loyalties on whatever works for her to that end. It was Labour/CND many years ago, then Tory, now Popular Conservatism - a mini-drain-the-swap-Trumpist in bed with the likes of Nigel Farage and David Starkey.

Wouldn’t trust her as far as I could throw her. She even models herself in appearance on whomever had the qualities she hope to emulate - anyone remember the fcuking ridiculous Thatcher blouses and bouffant hairdo?

Hopefully she’ll lose her seat at the next GE - perhaps she knows it and is set to rise like a phoenix from the pyres of her most recent political crash and burn as a independent PoCon

Sadly you are right. I'd estimate around 50% of the electorate meet one or more of my criteria for being f***ing stupid. This ranges from those who will be voting tory because of Brexit all the way to those who will be voting conservative because they support conservation, with a large group who won't vote Labour because they are not labourers, in between.
