The Fireworks are just awesome - for fans of that wonderful Shop Assistants, early J&MC, fuzzy C86 sound. I've seen 'em a few times and they just keep getting better and better.

The Fireworks are one of the bands playing at C2 at The Edge Of The Sea Festival in August.

Now got Half Man Half Biscuit tickets and Public Service Broadcasting. Both at C2 this Autumn.

Also picked up HMHB tickets - first appearance down this way since their appearance at Southwick Barn back in 1999. Saw them a couple of years ago at the Shepherds Bush Empire where the sound was terrible so C2 should be much better.

If you do manage to see Sic Alps, let me know how it was. I've missed them a couple of times here.

Well, that was an interesting night. The reason no advance tickets were on sale is that the venue does no promotion for its sporadic events; it's all word of mouth. Not knowing any details we arrived at the address at 7 and all we could see was a dirty block with a supermarket at the bottom; asking for the venue by name, ie "West Germany", is tricky as well. Went for a beer, came back, still couldn't find the venue. Gave it a final try at 9 and got talking to two girls in the same situation as us who fortunately had a friend inside which they called. We were then guided to a small scabby metal door in a nearby decrepit building, up 4 flights of manky car park style stairs to a room which used to be a doctors surgery. They played here to about 100 people. It was great fun once the stress of finding the place dissipated. I only know the self-titled album and they played a handful off this and in general they played their louder stuff. Minor shame as the more tender songs on Sic Alls are quite lovely. I think they did a cover at the end; possibly Dylan. Also, this was their final gig as they're off to pursue other projects. Booooo. Band hung around before and after the gig chatting to the punters which was nice.

A few random observations 1) the band seems to be very much the singer/guitarist's project. This is very noticeable. Nothing negative in this; just an observation from someone who knows little about them 2) people were smoking and drinking from glass - not seen this for a while 3) 95% of the males had beards.

Some good blues coming up at the Ropetackle. I've just booked tix for Papa George & Zoot Money, Catfish Keith and Buddy Whittington.

It was great. I really enjoyed the band and am certainly going to keep an eye on Mike Donavan in the future. Nice crowd as well, spend ages chatting with people after the gig. Thanks for the Sic Alps tip; much appreciated.

I found out Thee Oh Sees are playing on Tuesday so going to check them out as well.

Absolutely pumped for F*** Buttons/ The Haxan Cloak at the Concorde in September. That's going to be 2 of my top ten records of this year in one night.
