Him leaving and replacing him with el-abd would not be an option......

I think it could be. ElAbd played well in a similar position earlier in the season and I thought he looked better in that role than at RB or CB (or even LB!).

It really matters what we want from next season I suppose.....El-abd imho could do a job in centre midfield...but is "a job" good enough?

He has the making of a good player but just lacks that little something...that brings him way short of lets say..chippy..when he hadnt lost it...

If we are to compete at the right end of table......the centre midfield paring is very important....and hammond needs someone next to him..who has a real decent football brain...

A long shot.....but and its a big but.......if we got currie and a decent loan signing for midfield centre...in..i'd be off to the bookies to bet on a play-off spot!

Well I agree too, his leadership qualities have been sadly missed since his injury.

So the answer to our prayers is Charlie? If so, God help us.

Albion are still in the dark over the future of Alexis Bertin.

The Seagulls have not had an answer from the French midfielder to the offer of a new contract and they are not expecting him to report back with the rest of the squad for pre-season training on Monday.

we seek him here
we seek him there
the albion seek him everywhere
is he in heaven
is he in hell

I'm one of those old style fans that has trouble letting go of the past when it comes to players......i still thought chippy had it...I wanted adams back and cullip..before he went to qpr...but this is a step too far.....he was never great in him prime.....

I'm glad he is more or less back..but it never excited me to hear his name on the teamsheet....

I agree, whilst there can be no doubting Oatway's presence in the dressing room is of huge benefit, I cannot believe he is the answer to our problems in midfield and I do think that had he have not suffered the injury he did, then he would not be a regular in the team. I have thought that other than the occasional game, he has been off the pace for some time.

I would love him to come back and prove me wrong, but his age and his lack of football over the last 2 years is not going to help him.

I also don't see from a footballing perspective, what he would offer compared to Hammond.

I should have added that even if Charlie no longer plays regularly for us, I'd still like to see him continue to be involved with the club in some way. I have never doubted his loyalty and commitment to the cause even though I don't see him as a first choice for us anymore.

Decent player, would certainly have added something to the squad.

Can't blame him for looking at all his options, and the end of the day it's his career and got to see where the best offers are coming from.

However, the fact that he has left the club completely in the dark is not on, for this reason we should give him a deadline to sign or f*** off. We can't hold on for ever, and as there is other clubs interested i assume we have offered him a fair whack which we can use now to attract a decent player, rather than waiting till only the dregs are left.

Good points, well made. I really rated him in the couple of games I saw him in, but I feel that the return of a fully fit Paul Reid would go a long way to making up for his loss. Really can't see Charlie being any more than a bit part player from now on.

If missing out on Bertin means we have a bit extra to get Currie then I think it will work out well for the club. With Reid and Oatway on the way back to fitness it looks like we will have a few more midfield options than last season.

would be gutted if Bertin does not sign but don't blame him for looking around and waiting for offers from higher up the league. He is out of contract and so its his right to sign for whoever he wants does not really owe us anything

I would say it is politeness and etiquette to inform the club that he isn't coming back.

Alexis Bertin can feck right off. We do not want him and if he comes back to Knight cap in hand when he does not get a better offer , Dick knight should in no uncertain terms tell him to get the hell out of his office and on the next Ferry to Calais.

I was a big fan but do not want him at the club now. Our players should want to play for us not because no one else has offered a better contract.

Piss off now Alexis.

Ah, NSC's very own weather vane's Saturday morning delight. Morning, Gubber.

Actually, we DO want him. He is just plain bloody rude, however.

Hold your horses US. There is a possibility that he may turn up on Monday morning ( a very faint one, of course). Wait a week before unleashing your anger.

Yeah I agree with Algie, he wasn't even that good, so he can f*** off now. Even if he signs, it will only be because he didn't get the better offer he wanted. Au revoir you cheese-eating, beret-wearing, garlic-smelling tart.

Not a very mature attitude that. Bertin in our division is a class act. It was always unlikely that we would be able to hold onto him. I'd love him to stay but if he doesn't, I wish him well and thank him for helping us to avoid the drop last season.

Ffs bertin is so over rated.Average league 1 player at best.Dont forget Ipswich and the mighty Rotherham turned him down before he came to us.And he could not get in to the le havre team in the 2nd divison of the french league.

I'd be surprised if Wilkins hasn't got his eye on other options already given Bertins reluctance to sign. We do need a quality player to play next to Hammond and hold the midfield together. I'd love it if we could get Alexis back, but there are other players out there.
