That's probably why @Titanic has highlighted it. Because the last time i chatted to him, he was really unhappy with the way the party he has been a member of for the last few decades got taken over. I'm guessing he still feels the same about Kemi as he did about Johnson and Truss

I don't remember saying that or the context... and guess again.

You believe Kemi is going to lead you back from the wilderness 😲

What we want to see is a Government that deserves to govern us, so far the new lot are just continuity tories arguably even worse.

Sort out the appalling energy prices, restore WFA, cut taxes and end waste of tax payers money on migrants, Ukraine etc. and they can govern for a generation………there’s your speedy action we want to see.
Yes - those pesky foreigners. If it weren't for them everything would be perfect...... I'm more than happy for my taxes to be spent on making people's lives better and helping a nation defend itself. You're obviously not.

Cut taxes whilst increasing spending. How do you do that then?

I'd have thought you'd rather see politicians not joking about constituents dying and making anti semitic and racist comments. How many ministers is that now ?.
Indeed I would.

But it is good to see swift punishment. Instead of supporting those who make racist comments and inappropriate 'jokes' and voting him in to the position of prime minister eh?

Sir Keir Starmer when he was leader of the opposition said over and over again:

We will freeze council tax, no ifs no buts

We will freeze council tax and you will not pay a penny more than you did last year

Yes you heard right, a Labour Government will freeze council tax

Time and time again, even at the dispatch box:

Why won’t the Prime Minister pledge to freeze council tax because that’s what a Labour government will do

So what is all this nonsense in the right wing press about Council Tax going up 5% and 10% in some areas… The notoriously right wing Guardian has quotes of 25% !

He said in 2023 that if Labour were in power they would freeze council tax for that year. Not this year, or for the future.

No party would say they would halt council tax rises for future years, and no party has.

You're reaching now. If that's the way it's done then vote for me, if I was in power this year I'd build 5 million houses but can't say how many I will build next year if I'm elected.

Financial times change year-on-year, and judgements and promises applying to one year wouldn't be expected to apply to future years under different financial conditions. After all - Jeremy Hunt took 2% of NI, which reduced the tax take. How do you make that back up again.

If you said in 2023 "I'm going to buy a season ticket this year", and then you couldn't because one wasn't available. And then in 2024 you find you cannot afford to do so for that year - would you say you have broken your promise? No, of course you wouldn't.

I hope you don't mind me asking but are you at 6th form college?

I'm not particular interested in what politicians say they are going to do in the future, more what they are doing now.

All politicians lie about the future.

The reason I'm so glad the Tories are out is that (like Trump) lied about the present on a daily basis.

Particularly when about half of councils are on the verge of bankruptcy. Not that certain of our posters will recognise that.

There's a simple question that needs to answered, albeit in a complex way.

The UK is running a huge deficit so... do we ?

A) Raise taxes
B) Cut spending
C) Both
D) Kick it down the line like successive governments always have for the next generation to worry about

All other talk is just political waffle. But I guess that covers all parties.

Nigel Farage has all the answers apparently.

I'm very easily wooshed. But thankfully not this time. I may not know the solution, but NIgel Farage and his bunch of loons are not it.

Maybe part of the solution is those in charge working together for the betterment of the county. But I must be a loon to think that.

Councils in the UK cannot go Bankrupt but you knew that didn’t you, since the last Labour Government 11 councils issued section 114 notices (Media call this bankruptcy) all in 2023 or before 👍

Out of interest you described half the UK councils on the verge of submission of a 114 notice ( apparently there are 317 Councils in the UK), do you have a list or link to these?

No. Why do you ask?

It is fairly simple; what a politician promises for 2023 only cannot be held against them when they don't do it in 2025. Circumstances change.

So politicians shouldn’t make any promises on the basis that circumstances change? Sound eminently sensible to be fair

When Starmer made those promises it was based on his policy of a windfall tax on energy companies…that was how he would pay for freezing council tax once in power with an imaginary £10billion from the windfall tax. If I remember rightly my electricity bill will be going down £300 as well. 👍
