BBC News - Labour suspends 11 councillors over WhatsApp group

As I'm sure my own local conservative councillor and multiple account poster on NSC now knows, the Internet isn't private

https://www.theargus.co.uk/news/175...ate-resigns-making-series-islamophobic-jokes/

But I can't imagine who he's posting as these days, unless you having far more info as a mod than my goodself, fancy a guess

I think you’d do well to remember the views of several moderators the last time you went al Shercock Holmes, i’d hate to see you get into to trouble or worse, banned forever 😉

I've had a couple of infractions in 20 odd years but never been banned. Maybe you'd like to say the same

And I was actually pleased to see you back last time, I'm sure you're not a nasty person, just easily led, unfortunately by the same person again and again

But sometimes that get blamed for things that aren't actually their fault 🤷‍♂️

The High St was dying long before Starmer entered Number 10.

Live by the sword die by the sword. Starmer's Labour made the decision that they would win the election by pointing fingers at the Tories behavior (admittedly all too easy to do) and slagging off 'old' labour, rather than presenting a coherent and inspiring vision for change. As a result they have painted themselves into a corner economically whilst exposing themselves to endless accusations of hypocrisy. Chickens...roosting...etc.
I think there are levels of disagreeable behaviour, and whilst I'm not defending the members of the WhatsApp group, what they've done is not in the same league as the sort of antics the Tories got up to, i.e. Partygate, Boris and his latent racism (i.e. letterbox Muslim women, piccaninny water melon smiles), Covid contracts and the countless times Tory MPs refused to resign despite crossing the line time and again.

Anyone in work who has to deal with members of the public will - at some time or another - cursed them, made fun of them and bitched about them, with other colleagues. Usually, this will be verbal. Alarm bells should sound the moment anything is put in writing, especially in the world of politics. Maybe these WhatsApp people should vent their spleen in a quiet corner of a pub, rather than via text?

I would argue it is an important component of dealing with the stresses of the job, to share a joke or unburden oneself with a comment, and journalists are some of the worst for bitching, so themselves are being hypocritical when judging others on these matters

Clearly, when Starmer said he would hold his party members to higher standards he didn't mean that no Labour member would ever step out of line again, but that those who do transgress will be dealt with swiftly and firmly.

Christ you are tedious, don't you get bored of posting nonsense.

Oh and there's a perfectly good Tory party meltdown thread for that link you've posted, I'm sure you remember contributing a couple of useless emojis to it now and then.

In other bizarre news Stella Creasy has blasted her own party's new immigration rules saying it would stop Paddington becoming a UK citizen.

An inaccurate LinkedIn profile is hardly unusual. My own does not reflect my full job title history because it would mean having to explain the time my former employer f***ed me over as punishment after I got signed off for two months during a family crisis.

It’s an odd attack line to make when there’s enough from her decisions and performance in the job so far to take issue with.

Well exactly. In the job previous to my current one I worked for a start up. I had different job titles, responsibilities and line management as the company evolved. It got large Series B so we grew the team and I ended up with a title I didn't really want or understand. Then tech started to contract, they got rid of a bunch of people and I ended up with a different title and responsibility across two areas. I'm certainly not adding all that. My title for there is the one I had when I left and that I did the most of while there.

Given there are three Labour threads on the go at any one time it's no wonder people have trouble keeping up.

Maybe we'll call this one "the clutching at straws thread" and the one currently titled "The Labour Government" can be renamed "I want great public services at no cost to myself". Snappy eh?

Either way it'll be the same 10 people contributing to both.

not odd, it effing tedious thing to keep banging on about. worked for BoE, worked for a bank in what ever capacity, has a Masters in Economics from LSE, that makes her more qualified than most to be Chancellor. BBC should be above this sort of tabloid story, seem to make up a fake claim about 10years at BoE which quite sure has never been made. they also regurgitate the expenses claims, which for some reason HBOS didn't do anything about.

The Tories worked very hard to ensure BBC News was solidly in its corner. It’s also just as in thrall to the clicks-above-all mindset which infects the media landscape as a whole.

Labour will, presumably, have to work just as hard to restore balance.
