tell you what, just do one thing, look at the last 13 years of Tory Government and compare it to the previous 13 years of Labour government

I think your decision on who's better at running the country will be fairly easy
If you want to make it binary party political, 1997 to 2007 was the era that many millions and future millions were priced out of ever owning their home.

I find it strange that most posters applaud Starmer for purging the Labour Party of individuals who disagree with his policies yet were critical of Johnson for doing the same in the Conservative Party.

No, of course not. I never said this, you’re confusing me with someone else.

I am making an entirely different point that socialism is not going to win an election and what you describe as Tory-lite can and will.
According to their constitution Labour is a socialist party. Perhaps starmer is in the wrong party then? Thats bit of a silly mistake to make. for someone who wants to win an election without socialist policies. Its on page one I believe.

I don’t understand what you’re going on about. I’m going to stop replying to you now and talk to other people. I hope you understand.

He's purging the party of racists. & suggested they leave. Seems reasonable

The choice is, as always, Tory or Tory light. No much hope of anything else in the UK. Even after 12 years of Tory rule shitting over every day people.

Weird that there is still no appetite to try something different.
Probably because most sensible people understand that extreme left is even worse !

No, we were critical of Johnson because he was a useless, lazy, venal twat.

And I find it unlikely that Johnson didn't purge like likes of Mogg and Gove because they are people with whom he had a shared vision. He was frightened of them and decided to follow the Sun Tzu dictum....pragmatic. perhaps.

I just have this picture of you, holding your ankles as Johnson, Truss and Sunak take turns whilst you scream painfully 'at least they're right wingers' when they really aren't, they're just simply corrupt with no political ideology whatsoever :lolol:

0.06% of Labour Members had accusations of AS against them so anyone with half a brain cell can see that the scale was hugely exaggerated and leveraged as a political weapon.

60 Jews have been expelled by Starmer since he took over and other forced resignations including a Holocaust survivor who resigned under threat of expulsion.

Any chance you might be the person with with the problem?

Well I wouldn't say 'even' worse. Differently as bad, perhaps.

I wanted Corbyn out because he could never beat the tories. not because I am necessarily opposed to left wing policies. We have never seen true left wingerry running the UK. The post war consensus accepted nationalized everything. It wasn't even considered left wing. It was Thatcher who changed that game. People like me didn't like it, and drifted further left. Then (like many before me) I saw how unfit to govern the extreme left were. I am perfectly content with the middle left position, although I thought that Blair made a rod for his (successors') back with the public-private nonsense.

A nice 'free market' with the loopholes (that allow British companies to register themselves as Panamanian and pay no tax, for example) removed, and good socialist nationalized provision of core services that benefit us all - education, NHS, police, fire service, military (without all this outsourcing and tendering and the need for mountains of paperwork and paperworkers to keep tabs on it all). That would be nice.

And while I am at it, full time NHS consultants should not be moonlighting in private clinics. A mate of mine went for his knee replacement work up in an NHS hospital in London (Guys) last year. He was told '2 year wait'. He decided to pop round to a private clinic - in The Shard - very swish. The consultant he met was the same surgeon he'd seen days earlier At Guy's. He had his knees done 6 weeks later. Now listen close, Liz Truss: that is a disgrace.

That last bit’s been the way since the 70’s at least. My parents had ops where the same surgeon/consultants worked at the Royal Sussex, whilst having private patient rooms on The Drive, performing private hospital surgery at the now gone New Church Road place. The latter two bits are now located at Nuffield Woodingdean.

I’ve heard their fierce defence. In essence, they spent decades training to get to that position. If the rules changed to what you describe, they say they’d simply go wholly private.

Do you mean your parents go wholly private (which is their right - funds permitting) or do you mean the consultants will go wholly private? If the latter then the NHS should stop training them. They are not elite footballers. They are supposed to be trained to work as public servants. Like me (university academic). Any consultancy I do is in my own time.

The Labour party bottled it when they created the NHS, because of wholesale opposition from the wealthy medical community. The compromise was to allow consultants to use NHS facilities to conduct private practice. In the late 80s a consultant where I work threw a party to celebrate becoming a millionaire. I kid you not. He was sacked a few years later from the NHS for being negligent. He refused to deal with an emergency at night and the registrar killed the patient. The consultant sacked the registrar....that didn't go well. Things have changed a lot, but the wheezes are rife. All the hospital medics I know moonlight in private clinics.

NHS consultants have been trained at great expense by the tax payer. They do not have the right to flounce if they were told that they can't go part time to work privately. I could ask to go part time (I am not a medic) but I would be allowed to do so only if it saved my employer money and my teaching commitments could be met. By others.

By others. Do we not have a shortage of medics? Yes, yes we do. And nurses. Both can be employed in private practice. Do Brighton train and nurture young players then loan them all out to Palace for a pittance? No, now we don't.

Why do we let consultants switch to part time in the NHS so they can work privately?

Consultants earn over £100K. My consultant pal (research section head - not even the overall head) has bought houses for all four of his kids. His pension pot is over the tax free limit.

No, this is >75 year racket and it needs to be stopped.

Before I read your entire post, I meant the consultants.

If ever compelled to be wholly NHS, they’s just leave and be 100% private here or in North America.

Any chance that someone ignoring the regularly expressed experience & fears of racism & abuse of the overwhelming majority of UK Jews is the problem? Especially when copy & pasting the same bullshit 'figures' that every cultist goon uses.
Do you casually ignore every other community's lived experience of racism or is it just Jews that don't count for you?

I personally know the retired top ENT consultant in Sussex, incredible wealthy, a stunning house and grounds, with a gorgeous yacht. The ‘knees’ consultant who helped me (private) with an MCL a year ago has it all …. a vast house in East Sussex, heli skiing in wildest Canada, kids at a top private school, young, he even has the looks. A typical day was/is as follows - early morning ops at the Nuffield, then Royal Sussex ward rounds and ops morning, finally Nuffield private clinics a couple of evenings a week.

A Tory friend of mine has made the identical suggestion to you. He criticises the sacred taboo for anyone to suggest that NHS trained doctors contractually commit to serving in the NHS for a long time post their incredibly expensive training.

When you have read my whole post you will see that I mean that if the taxpayer trains them they should (for a while at least) be contracted to be employed solely by the taxpayer. We don't train fire and police service people and let them moonlight as part time policemen/women and part time private security guards etc. If a police employee wishes to resign and become a private consultant, so be it. Nobody is complaining the police service is understaffed because as soon as they become qualified the graduates become private security people! And medics are paid far more than the police.

In medicine we allow consultants (and more junior doctors) to use their NHS status to underpin their cachet as private doctors. It is a racket.

Let the people who want to be rich private doctors pay their own way via private universities for their training. The University of Buckingham, for example.

Oh, hang on....."Buckingham Medical School is a not-for-profit educational charity, meaning that students cannot receive government loans and must therefore self-finance the £37,500 annual tuition fee."

Over £180 grand for a five year medical training...the only people doing this will be kids whose school grades wouldn't get them into a UK university. And rich parents, of course. Fancy being treated by one of their graduates? Me neither.

Isn't the University of Buckingham massively untrustworthy and specialising in courses like "Nutrition". Or have I made that up?

Actually they are a democratic socialist party and their rule book states they will effectively harness the free market rather than take it over.
