And was there an appetite for something different or did the country choose a total buffoon while Corbyn was labelled as unelectable and comrade and other dopey meaningless nonsense.

Like I say, no appetite for anything other than born to rule posh twats who don't give a toss about' normal people.

You love it 😂

You said a choice between Tory or Tory lite suggesting comrade Jeremy Corbyn was a Tory lite option which is laughable/moronic ...

Those are the two options to have a chance of winning. You can put up a socialist agenda and lose - again - and then grumble and complain how the electorate “don’t get it” and how everyone who didn’t vote for socialism is “stupid”.

You could do that; or you could pick a moderate candidate like Starmer, manage out the remnants of the extreme left in the party, and actually win an election.

The media and politicians will look to what the IFS say about Starmer’s manifesto.

They drove a coach and horses through Corbyn’s …. the sums did not add up. And that was without the cost of renationalisations. It got huge press.

Starmer and Reeves will be aware of that. There’s not much wriggle room. We’re already a much higher tax country than in 2010, a stack of under the radar stealth tax rises by Osborne and his successors. Corporation tax is to increase to 25%, one of the highest rates in Europe. I think Starmer and Reeves will cleverly not make huge spending pledges.

Would you, or any sentiant being ever describe voting for Jeremy Corbyn's Labour party as voting for Tory lite?

No, of course not. I never said this, you’re confusing me with someone else.

I am making an entirely different point that socialism is not going to win an election and what you describe as Tory-lite can and will.

I may not have explained myself correctly, I wasn't suggesting there want a choice. I meant that as an electorate you guys only choose from those to options. Corbyn was dismissed as unelectable for this very reason.

Glad someone got what I was saying (albeit not that clearly).

Was it? I thought it was the biggest Labour vote since the post war labour victory. Whatever, to put it down to one man and excuse the right wing of the party is wrong imho. We all know that there were Labour MPs continuously briefing against him plus the massive press propaganda. Yes I do know he never had a chance but hoped he might prevail. All in the past now but I just find it sad. Growing up we had free healthcare, the envy of the world consistently voted against by Tories. Free education including University and Council houses. All gone now but we have more billionaires and food banks than you can shake a stick at. Good luck people you are going to need it.
Uni tuition fees started under Labour.

Blair's third biggest mistake (after PPF in the NHS, and tax breaks for religious schools). Still... when you consider the shit show that followed....small beer.

Wriggle. It's wriggle. Well...it isn't always. But it should be. So there.

I actually think Blair had too.

When I went I think 8% of 18 year olds did. Major then Blair upped that to over 50% (entering at age 18, 19 or 20).

The mistake in the system, you’d know far more, is that average unis offering substandard courses seized upon the £9k a year fees max … all grabbing that. There’ve been excellent pieces on BBC from students, savvy parents and student groups examining the joke content of many courses. Bugger all offered for the £27k.

If magic granddad had done his job and looked after the working classes and the young people in this country by backing remain properly then the Tories would have had their meltdown earlier ... and with a lot less collateral damage.

He didn't.

He can f*** off ... He betrayed the good of the very people he was supposed to have the back off because of his personal ideology.

There was an open goal to break the Tory party, with the shattering noisy drama of hurling a battered, out of tune, grand piano off of Castley Viaduct
.

I'm sure he was/is well intentioned ... But

Jesus wept, how the f*** did that happen?

It’s noticeable that Rachel Reeves the shadow chancellor is very tight lipped on how anything will be funded (leads me to believe she does have an idea of how the economy works) despite some murmurings from shadow health and shadow education on future plans. Nothing though from the shadow chancellor.
I would say the opposite. On a daily basis she posts about either windfall taxes to sort out energy bills or abolishing Non Dom status to sort out the NHS.

You just stick your fingers in your ears and shout loudly than under Corbyn the Labour Party had a massive membership (true) and lots of money (true)

Electoral wipeout and biggest election loss since 1935 equates to abject failure. (also true)
Corbyn lost because he is a principled politician up against a populist. They vote Boris as he says the things voters want to hear.

But if you look at his policies he got most things spot on, he would have invested more in energy making us more prepared for the current crisis. He was right about Brexit and his plan would have meant no lengthy transition period which cost us billions, plus he would have invested in the NHS so we would be better prepared for the pandemic and he certainly wouldn't ask key workers like to take real terms pay cuts.

Labour will win the election as it is a united party, with the Tories you're voting for the small loony fringe

I think it will be a document vague in hard facts, but full of happy generalisms. Protecting the NHS, giving young people skills and hope, housing. It definitely won’t promise anything on pay, that would be madness at that stage, why set yourself constraints?

The argument for that will be “we don’t know how the finances will be, until if and when take office”

No need when there’s a very healthy lead in the polls.
tell you what, just do one thing, look at the last 13 years of Tory Government and compare it to the previous 13 years of Labour government

I think your decision on who's better at running the country will be fairly easy
