Double standards I agree. No mention of all the bibles burned in the streets of the middle east, thats fine, best not say anything in case it upsets the muslims. I am not saying its right, obviously it isn't but this guy believes 9/11 was inspired by the koran which it was or at least a warped view of the koran.

If you burn a bible in the US you will probably get shot. If we are talking about the UK then fine but this issue is US versus Muslim world not UK versus Muslim World so what we do here in the UK is irrelevant.

By law both in the UK asnd the US an area must be set aside for people of any denomination to pray....ergo... prayer rooms. How is this example in New York any different?

I`ve conceded that it probably doesn`t matter whether it is a mosque or not but the point is still valid that the New Yorkers are struggling a tad with it all. If its just a centre, that houses a couple of rooms for the odd muslim to get down on his knees and say a few words to his God then Lordy lord why oh why are dose damn Yankees feeling so uncomfortable about it all.

You asked the question!?

You have somehow managed to condone the act of burning a religious text in one post, and yet argue for confidently condemning intolerance? If you tuly offer no support for any religion, then surely one religion burning another's text is abhorrent on any number of levels.

No .....

I argued that those that will show the violent intolerance of the burning of the Koran, equally have been burning, empathising and supporting violent acts against those same peoples that now wish to show the same intolerance.

The burning of religious text might be inflammatory, but to conveniently ignore the sustained offensive behaviour of many Islamists against our own symbolic cultural icons is always likely to provoke such a response.

No. Why in caps lock

No .....

I argued that those that will show the violent intolerance of the burning of the Koran, equally have been burning, empathising and supporting violent acts against those same peoples that now wish to show the same intolerance. THIS SHOWS YOU KNOW LITTLE ABOUT MUSLIMS. IN 1989 GROWN MEN (MISTAKENLY) CRIED WHEN CERTAIN PASSAGES SUPPOSEDLY INSULTING ISLAM FROM SATANIC VERSES WERE READ OUT. NOT ONE OF THOSE MEN EVER EVER THOUGHT OF DOING ANYTHING VIOLENT ABOUT IT. MOST OF THEM WOULD HAVE EVEN BEEN TOO SHY TO WRITE TO THE GUARDIAN! NOT ALL RELIGIONS HAVE THE SAME TYPE OF PEOPLE

The burning of religious text might be inflammatory, but to conveniently ignore the sustained offensive behaviour of many Islamists against our own symbolic cultural icons is always likely to provoke such a response. ISLAMISTS YES, MUSLIMS NO... THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE AND THE KORAN IS FOR ALL MUSLIMS, NOT JUST ISLAMISTS

New York prides itself on its tolerance and liberal attitude but I suspect they are only mirroring how any city would feel after what they went through.

Oh well. Some mad religious nutter does something that upsets another religious nutter.

Who wants to see a picture of a little Colombian fella breakdancing?

More like the short arse is saying "what the f*** are you looking at?", at which point Capello says "me no speaky espanish" or somesuch, which is what he normally does when someone asks him a question he doesn't like.

Because a minority of them want to pretend that no Muslims were killed in the Twin Towers and to assert that unless you are a right-wing WASP you are not a "real American" ? President Obama to his credit has already made clear that all Americans are entitled to equal treatment under the Constitution.

This whole thing calls to mind US General William Boykin, who, speaking in 2003 of an Islamist terror suspect he was pursuing, famously declared "I knew that my God was bigger than his. I knew that my God was a real God and his was an idol."

The fact that people in the USA can rise to the top holding views like this only confirms how Christian and Muslim fundamentalists really are just two sides of the same coin. With both camps brainwashed by their stone-age mythologies into a self-perpetuating state of religious delusion, ignorance and irrationality, they richly deserve each other.

It wouldn't matter so much if neither side had access to nuclear weapons. It's not only the fixing of cricket matches that the west needs to be worrying about in the not too distant future...
