Koran burning day ?

Dandyman

In London village.
Double standards I agree. No mention of all the bibles burned in the streets of the middle east, thats fine, best not say anything in case it upsets the muslims. I am not saying its right, obviously it isn't but this guy believes 9/11 was inspired by the koran which it was or at least a warped view of the koran.

Out of interest, Gareth, what do you think inspired European Christians to murder 6 million Jews?

Why so passive and quite frankly intimidated.

I would think that Muslim fundamentalists have enough ammunition to kill the next Christian if they are that way inclined, without using this as an excuse as they're trigger.

Its the exaggerated reaction by these fundamentalists that I find bizarre and maybe needs addressing by their own religious/political leaders with some confident prompting from the west's own leaders.

In some way these American nuts have stolen a march on our own Western politicians, in that many over here are quite frankly fed up with the aggressive flank of the Islam faith continually spouting their anti western bile even within our own borders, whilst we recoil in the prospect of violent recrimination.

So burning someone's book is somehow brave and aggressive? The exaggerated reaction by the fundamentalists is because they are fundamentalists. There are plenty of christian fundamentalists in america who quite happily commit violence and even murder against doctors involved in abortion, and are every bit as scary as muslim extremists in my opinion.

We recoil in the prospect of violent recrimination, is that why you think intelligent people don't burn books? Brave intelligent people write books, they don't burn them!

This is just a precursor to what will happen next year , the 10th anniversary. 2011 will be interesting for the American public.

Hahaha! Perfect! I also note the forward is by Max Bygraves. I would order this book on Amazon but I don't think I could assimilate so many pearls of wisdom from such collective genius in my lifetime. Something about it makes me want to read it though. Do you think they have a copy at The British Library?

We already have the violent recrimination, based on flawed Islamic beliefs, its happening now.

They flew jumbo jets into New York and blew up buses on London streets, its a wee bit more scary than some crackpots in the USA.

By the way you hold authors in too high a regard, some are good some are useless, now and again a little burning of literature is a welcome relief.

I imagine demand for flights between Europe and the USA on 11th September 2011 might be on the LOW side...

The IRA blew up mainland UK shopping centres and business districts, funny, but American Christian leaders funded them! Now the terrorists have a different book behind them, it's get the bonfires started time. I'm having difficulty working out why no one was burning Catholic doctrines when the IRA were killing kids in the streets?

There is nothing to be had in burning books, never has been, never will be. Only dictators, fascists, and religious nuts burn books.

Try reading something like Infidel: My Life by Ayaan Hirsi if you really want to be inspired by someone brave.

Someone who sticks a book on a bonfire is just an idiot.

If these Evangelists were really clever instead of BURNING the Koran they'd pulp it and use the pulp to make paper on which they could reprint the Bible. Now that would be cool!

I really have no desire for inspiration to be brave or anything else.

I offer no support to any religion, even less so to those that seem to cause such reaction.

I just wish maybe we would confidently condemn the intolerance that so much of the religion written word seems to encourage.

Generally I think it is something we had addressed in the West, until maybe an importation of those cultures that promote religious intolerance and their own version of blind faith.

You asked the question!?

You have somehow managed to condone the act of burning a religious text in one post, and yet argue for confidently condemning intolerance? If you tuly offer no support for any religion, then surely one religion burning another's text is abhorrent on any number of levels.

'US lawmakers including Republican Representative Peter King of New York and independent US Senator Joseph Lieberman have sought evaluation of the sources of funding for the project, a 13-story glass and metal building that will house a swimming pool, daycare, lecture hall, and PRAYER ROOMS''

But no its not a mosque...

By law both in the UK asnd the US an area must be set aside for people of any denomination to pray....ergo... prayer rooms. How is this example in New York any different?
