Just far enough away from LDC
Sorry old boy, these fuckers thrive on fast footwork, the late, much missed Barry Lloyd told me the 'ring fencing' was doable right up until after the last game at the Goldstone in April 1997, even stopping the bulldozers as late as the night before in the June.

They just chose not to, for whatever reason.........
Once the land is sold its nigh on impossible to get a covenant placed on it. A judicial review would have been held and would have incurred costs for the council and likely compensation toward club and developers.

They would have had to explain why it wasn't deemed necessary at planning application stage in 1992 /3

Steve Bassam was on Brighton council, not on Hove so it had nothing to do with him

It's a bit harsh on Ivor Caplin too. Labour did gain a slim majority in 1995 but, as that was the same year that the ground was sold, that may well have been too late. I've no idea of the exact timescale but that would have required some fast footwork.
Don't mess with a determined narrative, even when it's incorrect.

Mind you I would have thought that @Lenny Rider had some idea about the history of the club. Apparently not enough

A lot more likely to have been hacked, I should think.
Not a lot of people seem to have considered that, in the Great Labour Pile On of early 25.

Apparently Caplin was involved in secret talks to sell the Goldstone to Alan Sugar to be redeveloped as an Amstrad factory.

There is no evidence for this, but it is a scientific fact.

Is that Barry Lloyd MP, or Barry Lloyd QC? Or Larry Boyd?

To see if this has any legs outside NSC I did a search.

It seems Caplin parted ways with the Labour party before the last election, for apparently undisclosed reasons:

And the tweeting of nudie pix of men was reported last June.

How come we have a thread about it only now?

I'm too scared to click on the 'For You' tab now!! I might send the link to my friend to see how quickly she suddenly develops an interest in politics! :lolol:

With respect, (and I do mean that, it's not the start of a comment that ends up being gratuitously offensive) I don't think Town Planning and land deals were Barry Lloyd's area of expertise and I'd treat anything he said on those topics with a bit of suspicion. However I accept that he might have believed it himself.

Yep. Like what I said, albeit put more politely.

I am afraid that selective confirmation bias gets on my tits. My bad, perhaps.

I did make an attempt to be polite earlier in response to a different post and it was well-received by the recipient (who appeared to be unaware of the ability to list an unwanted match ticket). But sometimes life is too short.

:lolol:
