it's probably fair to ask the question is Bloom backing his managers, not question here. Poyet and De Zerbi spent weeks complaining about the lack of backing (explicit or implied). so not great surprise they got the boot. with Hughton and now De Zerbi the timing has been abrupt but ultimatly the best time, right at end of season to give least distruption and maximum time for new person. unless they have been promised x spending or control of all signings, which i dont believe any manager gets these days, i cant see where untrustworthy comes in.

We absolutely DID NOT replace Bissouma, Caicedo and Mac.

The club was left with zero CM’s with the skillset and pace to shield the back 4 this season.

Dahoud didn’t perform that role for Dortmund, Milner is at the end, Gilmour bless him lacks pace and mobility.

We can hate on RDZ, but at least be honest on glaring 2023/24 squad deficiencies. Villa, Fulham, Roma, Luton, Chelsea, Wolves were all able to take the p1ss in centre midfield.

It will take another few seasons to replicate that successful partnership out of the next generation of youngsters coming up behind them. That’s not going to work for managers who want better on better results each season - the long term trajectory is two steps forward, one step back. Slowly we build, steady at the helm, the more sustainable the rise.

Got to be one of THE most ridiculous threads of 2024. More assumptions than when Susan Boyle walked onto the BGT stage.

Watford have had TWENTY ONE managers in 10 years and they don't have trouble getting a manager. Man U, Spuds, Chelshit, Palarse etc etc etc.... all change managers quicker than your average VAR decision.

Any manager knows that it is TBs club, knows that it's TBs vision and money that's got us here, knows the recruitment policy, knows that their job is secure if they perform and knows that they will not get sacked based on arbitrary rules.

I think this is the correct view for the club's current mode, it is just too much for someone like De Zerbi to stomach, but maybe his departure will provide a useful lesson for anyone who is incoming - the restraints will be more publicised, all knowledge is good.

if mike ashley was able to convince a champions league winner to come and work for him at newcastle then i have absolutely no doubts about that. how we operate is common knowledge, and i’m not sure i’d want any manager who was stupid enough to not be aware of that.

that said, the midfield was not properly replaced in the summer. yes money was spent, which was good, but anyone watching us has been able to see it that the midfield has been consistently the weakest area of the team, and we have lost midfield battles this season that we definitely should not have. i think RDZ has a right to be upset about not being given the tools in that aspect. publicly calling out the ownership is where it’s crossed a line

I am now getting bored with these comments! Are you seriously suggesting that there were no other midfield options than the ones we ended up with? NOBODY has suggested we were ever going to replace Ali Mac and Moises with players who were as good, but to expect us to sign players who might be considered potentially PL ready is not unreasonable. We sold our best ever midfield and replaced them with a kid who had no chance of just slotting in ( I really rate Baleba’s potential btw) and Dahoud who anyone could see was a lightweight replacement. I seldom criticise the club’s signings but we 100% f***ed up with the midfield replacements and it didn’t come as a surprise that we had a f***ing great hole in midfield. Gross and Gilmour were hung out to dry by poor recruitment imo.

I refuse to believe we couldn’t have done better and I imagine the club know they got this one wrong.

People as rich as Tony Bloom don’t want to be questioned, it’s that simple.

We had an exceptional manager in RDZ, albeit one with flaws who I think needed more time with us, and he was left with a poor squad this season that then became even weaker once injuries took their toll.

If I was him, I’d have felt the same.

But it’s Bloom’s club, so it’s his way or the highway, and it’s served us well so far. I’m just not sure who we get that’s of a similar level at present…

I don’t but I do know we have reason to have a bit of a moan about who we did end up without being given a history lesson on how Al Mac and Moises were the best we’ve ever had and to lower your expectations to zero

I’m not sure in Tony’s case that’s true. He’s never struck me as an unreasonable guy. I suspect you could question him, but publicly on Sky Sports is probably not the time he’d want you to do it. I suspect he’s more a “come see me and we’ll have a chat in my office” kind of guy.

I don’t think the club or Tony have got everything right this year, it’s easy to see somethings haven’t gone the way we thought but then, who does get everything right? Even Real Madrid and Man City have transfers that don’t work sometimes or results that are poor.

At the end of the day, Tony is the one who got RDZ in the first place, and got us to Europe. He’s not suddenly become incapable overnight.

Not entirely sure how I feel about the blame solely resting upon RDZ for that when we're all too aware that business doesn't get done until Bloom green-lights it. Feels like a bit of club PR from Naylor to me.

It doesn't to me. It's more a confirmation of what many of us thought at the time, that Dahoud was on de Zerbi's wish list rather than on the recruitment team's radar.
