I think that we are an extremely attractive club for prospective managers. Potter’s time earned him a move to a ‘big’ club and enhanced his reputation no end.

RDZ has been linked to no end of top jobs and if he’d held things together a bit better during our injury troubles he’d probably get one of them (maybe he still will).

Hughton had one of the most successful spells of his career with us.

Hyypia - he just wasn’t very good.

Garcia - didn’t do him any harm.

Poyet - best spell of his career. Got a move to the premier league.

I’m so bored with hearing this line. We had two world class players who wanted to leave, and we got offered £160 million+ for them. Only Man City and perhaps Real Madrid would have possibly been able to hold on to them in the whole of world football. We then spent €30 million on a teenager as a replacement! That is a serious investment. And we had Gilmour already ready to go after his season bedding in last year.

We absolutely DID replace them. Did we replace them with players at the exact same level they were? Well no, of course not, because that costs £160 million +, in which case we might as well have just hung on to Caicedo and MacAllister.

It still amazes me how many people just don’t seem to have the mental capacity to think in timescales of years rather than months, or even weeks. We are fortunate that Tony Bloom can, which is partly why our club is in the amazing position it is in.
Sorry, should have added “adequately”

It may bore you but I think it has alot to do with where we find ourselves now. Whether or not it was inevitable is irrelevant, it is what it is

Meanwhile, Twitter is the home of casual anti-semitism.

Wow. A good reminder of why I don't go on that cesspit.

He has got one thing right though, we did spend f*ck all and relied on the low grade free transfers of Pedro, Verbruggen, Baleba, Barco and the free loan of Fati. Whilst Tony did recoup a whopping 35 million of his almost half a billion interest free loan. The selfish git.

Interesting in Naylors article today he highlights 2 areas of conflict;

Dahoud being a RDZ signing which Bloom reluctantly sanctioned - on ‘hefty wages’ - and RDZ wanted to send Barco out on loan as not being ready for PL football.

Bizarre isn’t it ? Don‘t think we planned to sell them both until Boehly walked in with his ridiculous offer which was a genuine ‘too good to turn down’ opportunity (particularly as Caicedo wanted out) even if it weakened us for a season. Doesn’t deflect from or change the long term plan/direction of travel.

Indeed. Its maddening. Its absolutely impossible to replace perfectly like for like without a cloning machine.

It seems the only way Bloom could have won would have been the immediate resigning of both caicedo and Mcallister the week after they left.

I agree with this, except I think the list of clubs who could retain them is slightly longer (but that’s not really important to the point - it’s still a list Brighton are miles away from).

Doesn't DeZerbi have a history of not sticking around more than a couple of years, in 11 years he has had 7 clubs as manager. Maybe despite the success he is a difficult to manage behind the scenes or just gets itchy feet, we'll never know, wish him all the best but not overly surprised!

You publicly question your bosses motivation and investment model, start to blame others for your failures and yes, however good you are there is a very good chance you will be shown the door.

I had been half expecting this since the first time I heard RDZ doing his dirty laundry in public.

Let’s not blame Bloom for this or think any potential manager will be put off by it.

RDZ knew the job he was taking on and the restrictions, he obviously thought he could force Bloom to change the model due to the astounding season we had last year. Selling our best midfield players and not replacing them was the beginning of the end. I get how frustrated RDZ must have been this season but reacting as he did to the media did for him imo. In fairness maybe he is very relieved to be leaving as he was never getting what he wanted.
100% this.

And when you start using the public platform afforded you by the club to tout for a new position, then you should expect to be shown the door. Clough had to learn that the hard way at Derby.

RDZ was doing a Poyet. While we all hated Potter for going, GPott never publicly suggested that he would be considering his position etc. He wanted to be here. It was only in the last few weeks that RDZ started to sheepishly talk about wanting to be at Brighton.

Other managers will look at RDZ’s dismissal and think that he was responsible for his own downfall. And unless he is off to a big club, a downfall is what it is.

Seems shots are being fired!

If the Dahoud thing is true he's got SOME FRONT that January was when he started getting lippy about signings. Just as his own dud was getting washed out with the algal blooms.

Got to be one of THE most ridiculous threads of 2024. More assumptions than when Susan Boyle walked onto the BGT stage.
With all due respect, that was one of the biggest manipulations of the viewing public ever pulled, Cowell and Holden's apparently jaw drop reactions to SB, all pre-planned, with full knowledge of a vocal prowess that belied her appearance etc. They used to call the TV 'the Idiot Box' many decades ago, enough said, or in the words of SuBo:

"I dreamed a dream that RDZ was staying,
When hope was high and life worth living
I dreamed his love for BHA would never die
I prayed that TB would be forgiving,
Of our late season slump in form...'

Even if they wanted to leave and those offers came in? I just can’t see it. The only difference might be that they would be less likely to want to leave if they were playing at top clubs, I guess.

But it does also explain why Dahoud left, was this a board decision or De Zerbi’s?

Make no mistake,rdz was sacked.
Correct. And I don't need to be told by the club.

I am hating these negative comments about our owner and CEO (see thread title, if I'm not miss-reading).

Oooo I hope more truths come out soon . Few of us on this board knew that trash like dahoud and fati were RDZ signings but we were shouted down.

As for bloom. There's a balance between selling the club to a manager and being completely realistic with them. I think for bloom the players are a lot more important than the manager so he's happy with a 2 year turnaround.

Not to us of course, but to prospective managers.

We all know the song sheet, buy players young/cheap, develop them, sell for a profit. We are all comfortable with aiming to establish ourselves as a top ten club, we know our history etc etc… Managers are no doubt schooled in our ways before any job offer is considered so theoretically can have no complaints when we stick to our guns.

But by their very nature managers want to be leaders, to develop their own ideas, get players that fit in with their plans. Basically, to at least have some input into the plans for the team.

But we have now seen TBs absolute determination to stick to his plan cost us another manager. He has every right of course, he has bankrolled everything that we have. This single mindedness has led to the unexpected departure of three managers now - Poyet, Hughton and De Zerbi. Each was for differing reasons, the first two sacked and the third by mutual consent. But any incoming guy might well think to himself, ‘at any point I could get fired out of the blue’. Not through shit results, not a massive falling out with the boss, but just because the owner feels something is not quite right. No warning, no vote of confidence, just BOOM, gone.

Could this make us a slightly less attractive proposition than we think we are?
We don't yet know why the manager was sacked. My guess is he made a rash ultimatum and Tony called his bluff. As is right (not just his right).

And no, I don't think the owner will have been remotely dishonest.

Watford have had TWENTY ONE managers in 10 years and they don't have trouble getting a manager. Man U, Spuds, Chelshit, Palarse etc etc etc.... all change managers quicker than your average VAR decision.

Any manager knows that it is TBs club, knows that it's TBs vision and money that's got us here, knows the recruitment policy, knows that their job is secure if they perform and knows that they will not get sacked based on arbitrary rules.

So - Nah.
