Spot on. Personally, MP/DK saying the stadium is on track is enough for me, and I don't feel the need to check up on individual jobs. However, I can understand the interest from supporters and the need to be kept up to date (the blog, programme, podcast regularly do this - often it is just a case of MP saying "We are still on track" - but this still doesn't satisfy the Falmer appetite of a few)... Therefore I have spent the last few days trying to actually confirm the steel had been ordered. I was pretty confident it had been, as MP told me in December he was about to pass the details of the commission. However, I was not able to actually speak with MP until today to confirm this, due to his enormous workload on Falmer. I did speak to someone else on the project team yesterday, who also felt it had been ordered, but wasn't 100% sure (but also not too concerned) and said it wasn't the club who is responsible, but the Buckingham Group. Now, having spoken to Martin, I can confirm that the steel has been ordered... and relax.

BTW - I'm not getting cross.

Right. Now, have the nuts and bolts been ordered? ;)

Many, many thanks Insider. That is truly great news!!

Believe me, I have no agenda (other than to keep the lid on my enthusiam until I feel confident its going to happen). No problem next time (although i dont think there will be one from me) with just a -I'm referring to Martin and will get back to you asap.

God knows there's a very long way to go (possibly longer than we hoped with Martin's diary yesterday in mind-come on City College-please!!), but the steel ordering is a great stride towards our Falmer dream.

Consider me relaxed!!:smokin:

I believed them when the first answer was given stating it was all on track. Hence I never got unrelaxed, cross, or anything. That is until I read the continous nonsense on these threads about it.

Speaking as a quailified Project Management Professional ..... (PMI-PMP and APM PRINCE2 certified)

The key questions to ask in any project progress report are:

1/ What is the CVI? - this is the cost variance indicator - compares your baseline (estimated) cost against actual cost to date plus estimated remaining cost.

2/ What is the SVI? - this is the schedule variance indicator - compares your baseline (estimated) schedule against actual effort to date plus estimated remaining effort to complete.

3/ Is quality within tolerance (for both work completed and work planned)

4/ What is the actuarial value of the risk log? - this figure provides the comfort/scare of the predicted problems that lie ahead and what can be (has been) done to manage/mitigate them.

For any project sponsor who is particularly interested/nervous, a good PM would provide a summary milestone report which shows key events (may or may not be so detailed as to include "order steel") and against each milestone will be a baseline date and a planed date (or actual date achieved) - this will identify if things are on track, ahead (rare) or behind (common), but most importanly, by how much e.g. measured in days usually.

I should add that I am a software engineering PM not a civil/construction engineering PM, but believe me, the principles of project management are no different.

As to the debate about whether we have the right to Falmer progress information - my view is we are only customers of B&HA-FC - what they choose to share with us is entirely for them to decide, we have no right to know except for such things that are required by law - e.g. Ltd company accounts and auditor reports NOT captial project progress updates - we should be thankful for the info we do get.

Bugger the steel, what about the blue and white paint?

Does anyone really care if the chuffing steel has been ordered or not?

Builder fella 1: "Right then that's the foundations in and the road built, better get Darren to get the lads together and start on the steelwork eh?"

Builder fella 2 looking around the site:"Right-oh then, where is the steel again?"

Builder fella 1:"I thought you ordered it last Wednesday?!"

Builder fella 2:"No I was off last Wednesday"

Builder fella 1:"Oh bugger"

Actually, has the steel been ordered yet?!!!!!!!

I'm thinking that, too!
It's jeopardising a very useful service.
