So, you're saying that answering the question "has the steel been ordered?" with "it might have, it might not have" is actually answering the question?

That is not what I (or Insider) said. He has said it is on track and I've explained why that is more detailed than a yes (or no) answer.

I think some of the questions don't really need asking, and they waste his time.

I personally don't think we have any right to know what's going on behind the scenes, why should we? We support the club, they run it. We pay to go see our team play, so we invest in the club and therefore we're all stakeholders in the club, but that's different from being a shareholder, we don't have the right to expect to know when the steel is being delivered etc, I would like the club to keep us fully informed with what stage Falmer is at, but they don't have to, it's up to them to decide.

I think Beach Hut raises a good point about the travel vouchers, and I think the latest reply is very well put and answers the questions fully. The council are very strict with targets and things, believe me, I've experience of that...

Blimey.

With an attitude like that you probably thought the fans were wrong for questioning Archer and that we should have let him get on with what he was doing.

This is ridiculous. The club have given a very detailed answer - particularly the phrase 'everything is on track'. Whether or not this means the steel has or hasn't been ordered, or even if the club know this, is surely irrelevant. And to suggest that the board are not open with the fans is frankly laughable. Is there any other league club that communicates with its' supporters in the way ours does?

I think 'ridiculous' is not fair. If you ask a question and you get some longwinded spiel that doesn't actually answer your question, is it really ridiculous to ask for clarification? Is the person who is not giving you a straight answer justified in becoming tetchy with you because you want a straight answer to a straight question?

Remove the club from this equation, remove the "they saved us, without them we wouldn't have a club" sentiment from the equation.

Imagine it was nothing to do with Brighton and Hove Albion or football.

Just the simple concept ask a question with a "yes it has"/"no we're not due to yet" answer, and get a verbal dance of an answer. Is it really ridiculous to ask for a straight answer.

I'm pretty sure I quoted your reply showing that you did indeed say the answer was essentially "it might have, it might not have been" and you were definitely arguing that was a good response.

I don't think anybody is saying it is ridiculous, I just wonder if the club should feel they have to answer questions on the detailed progress on the stadium from every tom, dick and harry.

So unless they answer every question about every potentially sensitive aspect of the new stadium so copiously that it risks costing them more time and money, they're the new Archer and Belloti? Blimey indeed.

Their occasional mistakes notwithstanding, I still reckon there's a big difference between holding a degree of what I think to be justifiable trust in the board and being a sappy window-licking simpleton.

So if the answer had been "we haven't ordered it yet" would you have taken that at face value, or thought that there was some sinister reason why it hadn't been?

Personally the continued presence of chaps digging in the mud tells me all is well.

As I said in my opening post if the project was going all wrong do you think the club could cover that up. There are so many folk out there who still would love to see the project fail they will be sniffing around contractors, workman, councils etc for any titbit. I do wonder about the agenda of some posters on here who seem to want to find fault with the way the club is managing the project.

My point is that it isn't relevant whether the steel has or hasn't been ordered yet - what is relevant is that everything is on track which according to the club it apparently is. Because of the fact that the site is Buckingham's and it's their responsibility in exchange for about sixty million quid to deliver a stadium by 2011, the club may not even know specifically if the steel has been ordered yet.

Thus I stand by my point that bickering about this and saying the board and club are evasive and not open to the fans and all that is clearly ridiculous. I'm not a fan of every decision Uncle Dick and co have ever made but criticising them for not being open is just silly.

Not what I was saying though.

The person I quoted is essentially saying we do not have a right to know as the board own the club. Well that sort of attitude would have left us with no club.

I can only speak for myself, but yes, I'd take it at face value, until some contradictory information came to light. (I don't mean the odd rumour on here).

I very much doubt if Insider has access to every single aspect of the building process. The project is in the hands of The Buckingham Group, and according to them, everything is on track. Thats what the Insder has passed on, and that, frankly, is all we need to know. All this pestering on Ask The Club about whether or not steel has been ordered is a load of hot air and scrambled bollocks.

The building is ON SCHEDULE. We've been told. Leave it at that for christs sake.

Like a little something like common sense would have suggested that in the first place. However, as MoH has already said there are those who are obsessed by their own agendas and for whatever reason feel the need to question (and critisise) every detail of the club.

1) I don't think it's ridiculous given the history of the club and the fact that when they joined they said they were going to be an open board.

If you get into a relationship with someone who was stung by a betrayal, and you promised you'd be open with them, then suddenly you start being all evasive don't you think she would start to worry?

2) I'm not criticising them for not being open. I'm saying insider's tetchiness at being asked to clarify a long winded, non-answer reply to a straight forward yes/no question isn't really justified.

I'm also saying fans shouldn't be criticised for asking questions of the board (within reason, and that a major step in the stadium building is within reason)

Well that would rather depend on what the board and Insider consider reasonable would it not ? It's fair to say that some (okay a small handful of) people have said some pretty silly things on here about Falmer over the last few months.

If I was in a relationship with someone who had been previously stung by a betrayal, then of course I would give them assurances that I will be honest and open with them. I'd hold their hand, tell them I love them, stroke their hair and cook them a nice omlette.

But if that person then started asking where I'd bought my socks from. And demanding to know what time I was going to fill an order form out for a new shed. And then asking if I was going to buy the whole Rambo boxset or just the newest one on its own to add to the other two. Or whether I planned on getting Colgate Aqua this week, or just the plain, then eventually I might start getting a wee bit narky.

It could even end up with me telling them to f*** off and leave me alone to get on with things.
