My concern is, if the 6s rule is not enforced already what makes people think the 8s rule will be enforced.
I suspect it will for a few months at most (just like the yellow cards for kicking the ball away at freekicks this year) and then evaporate again.
I think the idea is to give referees more power to enforce the rule.

Refs are likely to be unsure about giving the opposition such a big advantage as an indirect freekick in a dangerous area, in what is probably such a crucial moment of a game.

Whereas corners are no longer a massive advantage, in the modern game. So we should see the rule enforced more.

This will be fun. Arsenal fans will be moaning and crying victim within 5 games and it will be quietly dropped.

Not sure what you mean! Refs have power to enforce the 6 second rule, they just don't. Just like they didn't really attempt to enforce the rule that allowed the move the ball forward 10yrds at a free kick when there was dissent, or the rule about only two approaching the ref and the third get's booked etc etc. There are endless examples of Ref's not using the laws of the game correctly and then they wonder why they get so much abuse!!

Frankly, they're only human and they bottle it. Most games, most refs, bottle a decision or two.

Imagine the dying minutes of a massive fixture - the time wasting keeper goes 1 second over his allocated time and boots it - it's not an easy decision to award the opposing team a freekick inside the area... but it's an easier decision to award them a corner.

Well my view won't change. Apply the rules and lots of play acting and shenanigans would disappear. The PGMOL have no sympathy from me. Their abject failure to apply simple rules that are there to help them has serious consequences for grassroots officials further down the football pyramid!
