[Music] If you can look beyond Control - What's the Best Music Biopic?

Biopics are probably my least favourite film genres with music biopic being the worst for me, despite being a massive music fan for me. I'd much rather watch a bbc4 doc.
That said Good Vibrations about the Belfast Punk record shop owner was excellent and I did enjoy Love and Mercy with Paul Dano and John Cusack playing Brian Wilson

The best is probably Walk The Line.

La Bamba, Ray, Straight Outta Compton, Sid and Nancy were all interesting and worth a watch.

It’s a documentary rather than a Biopic, but we’ve got a film called “Mavis”, about Mavis Staples, made by Jessica Edwards. It’s wonderful, goes right back to very early Staples Singers days and includes the clip from the Band’s film The Last Waltz which is the Band and the Staples Singers singing “the Weight”, which is just sublime.

I don't want to like them, but they end up being compelling viewing. Enjoyed both Rocketman and Bohemian Rhapsody, but actually less glitzy Hollywood fare such as Nowhere Boy being particularly memorable.

So much of Ian Curtis was about his haunted pale eyes. Could Riley not have at least worn contacts, or do they not work with dark brown eyes? My mate Tim is the absolute spit of Curtis in physicality, mood and demeanour, unfortunately he didn’t audition.

I really didn't want to watch Bohemian Rhapsody as I get a little precious about all things Freddie Mercury.

However, when I did finally watch it, once I got over the factual inaccuracies, like featuring a gig in 1975 playing songs they didn't release until 1978, I actually quite enjoyed it. I thought all the cast members portrayed the band members really well.
