No they aren't!

I've never seen a car driving on the path! I very rarely see a car jump red lights! All car drivers have had to a) pass a test b) use a road worth car c) pay road tax d) have insurance.

Cyclist should be banned from the roads until they have proved they are worthy of driving on the queens highway. They should have to pass a test, have insurance, pay road tax and have a road worthy bike that is tested on an annual basis.

f*** the environment my health is far more important, bhaexpress I salute you!

and you can add horses to that list too if they go on country roads, tax em

Fine ban cyclists from the road. I'm would be more than happy to
1) Take a test
2) Get cycle road tax
3) Get cycle insurance

So that I can ride on the queens road.
It will stop good cyclists like myself who follow the highway being generalized all the time.

Secondly I have seen plenty of cars go through red, whilst waiting to cross the traffic lights as a pedestrian and cyclist. I have also seen many cars parked up on the path in front of the chippy, blocking the pathway to pedestrians and cyclists.

Like I say motorists bad as cyclists and vice versa.
By the way I also drive a car too. Cyling is nothing to do with the enviroment. I cycle to keep fit, and its quicker than going by car.

Apologies, if I've misread this and he was crossing the road on FOOT. I took it to mean, he was in his CAR / VAN...

Makes diffrence for me, Why should it matter if on foot or car/van.

cyclist who jump red light who thinks the law doesn't apply to them.

Good on yer !

One where I nearly get run over by cyclists every f***ing morning!

And one in which no driver is uninsured, driving without a licence, driving an untaxed vehicle, or driving a vehicle unsafe for the road, apparently, and rarely goes through red lights. That's not the world most of us live in.

I never said that.

However no push bikes are taxed, no push bike riders have had to pass a test, lots and lots of push bike riders jump lights and ride on the path when it suits them and no push bikes riders have insurance.

Oh come on. I'm a cyclist and many other people on bikes do my nut in. From a cyclist's perspective, some car drivers are idiots yes, but I'd say (certainly where I live) the ratio of shit cyclists:good cyclists is much higher than shit drivers:good drivers. I see on average about 1 person a day run a red light on a bike (cycling 3 miles to work and 3 back again), whereas I see on average NO cars do so. I get pissed off at an average of 2 cyclists a day, and one driver every two weeks.

*numbers are complete approximations made up on the spot based on my experiences over the past 3 years.

Quite so but NO cyclist has to take a test, pay tax, or, most importantly, have insurance. Also, there's probably more cyclist that use the raod after dark without lights. A mate of mine was driving up the A23 and he hit and killed a cyclist who came down from a slip road without lights at 8PM one winter night.

Killed the cyclist but caused my mate no end of trauma and strife.

Yes, you did:

There are several cyclists on here who have mentioned in other similarly themed threads that they have insurance.

I'm not denying some cyclists misbehave, that some cyclists shouldn't be on the road with their behaviour because they are a danger to drivers, pedestrians, and even other cyclists. As a law abiding cyclist, the thing that has caused me most issues on the road have been other cyclists (especially on roundabouts).

I'm not saying some cyclists aren't a problem, or that your tax argument has no merit, I'm just taking issue with your sweeping generalisations of drivers as all good and proper, and cyclists all uninsured and nasty.

You get arrogant selfish road users whether they are in a car or on a bike or on foot. It isn't the mode of transport that makes them bad users, it's the people.

From a cyclists point of view. The Brighton council have done quite a good job creating cycle lanes throughout the city.

They are all useful and mean cyclists dont cycle on the road or on the pavement. Problem is

1) pedestrians walk in them
2) cars park in them

no one does anything about that, or complains about that if they are walkers or drivers.

I agree the red light thing should not be done, but plenty of vehicle drivers jump red lights when they think it is safe

There is no way that cyclists should have to pay road tax. Insurance and licences I would agree with but not tax. Why should they?

The amount of idiots riding around without reflective gear on this year is ridiculous, and should be clamped down on.

And long may it remain so. The crap country that we live in already tries to order us and tax us too much as it is. To me cycling represents a little bit of freedom that we still have.

I bet you'd like to have anyone who sails a yacht take a test before they're allowed out to sea as well. And why stop there? Why not make pedestrians be registered and have insurance too? After all if someone steps out in front of your car and damages it when you run them over surely they should pay for the damage?

Why? It is not illegal. Or do you support more and more legislation so that none of us are allowed to think for ourselves anymore?

PS I ride a motorcycle and find that a noisy exhaust and 40mph wheelies tend to get most cyclists out of the way!
