Didn't Sir Barnes Wallis's bouncing bomb cause widespread flooding in Germany?
I have news for you. Breaching a dam with bombs will cause flooding, and sabotage is normal in wartime. It prevented power getting to the armament factories making weapons which would kill more people.

That could be...interesting 😳
There was a guy on 5Live this morning in Tampa who was outside the mandatory evacuation zone and had decided to stay put and ride it out.

When he was asking about his risks he said there was a swamp behind his backyard that was full of gators...

There have always been nutters in politics and the world in general. The problem is that now these people get global air time via social media etc combined with (I say this reluctantly) our current obsession with the ‘right to free speech’ rather than ‘right to free speech but with responsibility, truth and consideration for others’.

Lovely part of the world - we stayed in Port St Lucie for 10 days or so a few years back.

As you suggest, being on the south side of the eye should help you on the east coast. Those on the north won't be so lucky, as the anriclockwise rotation will see the hurricane pushing back towards the shore for greater storm surge.

We've been very fortunate and visited Florida a fair bit over the years, mainly in August and we've had a few flirtations with hurricanes but nothing too bad. I find the whole thing captivating. I was switching between the Weather Channel (dodgy stresm) and Ryan Hall Y'All (on YouTube) all through yesterday evening.

As compelling viewing as it is, this is going to be horrific around 24 hours from now and people are going to lose their lives 😔
@Bozza Check your PM.

I've spent the last 3 days speaking to Brits in Florida, it will never ever fail to shock me how dumb some people are in refusing to move out of a dangerous situation and putting themselves and potentially others at risk.

Are they showing a stiff upper lip and embracing the Dunkirk spirit? Say what you like Brits have a very different mentality to the Americans in the face of peril imo.

yeah, it is going to turn into a bit a storm in a teacup by the end of tomorrow.
Yeah the speed drop of 20mph resulting in a lower Cat is really comforting!!!!
This is the 3rd Hurricane I have experienced close up and it's not a "storm in a teacup" feeling. The folks on the West coast of Florida would not agree with your thought.

Dose every thread have to be about Trump?
The problem is he and his wacky lackies can't help themselves

Do you work in the travel business or something? What exactly are they doing?

Reporting in from Sarasota (actually Ft Lauderdale where I arrived yesterday). Expecting to be homeless by this time tomorrow. Hoping for the best and power back on for the visit to St James Park. My contacts are a mix of wackos (riding it out) and cowards like me (getting out early). I survived the FishCane in 1987, and sad for Sarasota which has been a lovely place to live for the last 2 1/2 years. I do know it will take years to fully recover.

I was obviously making light of the situation, but in all fairness why move, build or live somewhere like these areas when events like this are pretty much a common occurrence, surely you take this into account, buyer beware.

That I do

Refusing to leave areas that are due to be hit
Moaning about being asked to move
Ignoring evac orders
Complaining to hotels they are shutting

Etc etc

People are likely to be homeless tomorrow, but they don't care about anything other than their holiday.

This will get interesting to watch. Amazing to see how quiet these places are (people wise). Looks like they have mostly taken the advice to evacuate.
