Looks like another strike is planned. An announcement will be made at 3pm today.
The rumour going round our office is it will be for the following Thurs & Fri. Unfortunately there's been no mention of any meaningful talks between management and union.

Not the most militant of offices, the ar$eholes remained ar$ses passing a few barbed comments, but only to the staff they didn't like anyway, the rest got on with it.
But the true comedy moment was, for the staff wanting to work but not walk in, the bosses collected them in a van, with the windows covered.
Only when everyone was back in on the Friday, those that had crossed the line, in secret, had all done there work and stood in a group talking, while the rest of us were getting on with our back logs.

Bent postie stole children\'s birthday cash
By Ben Parsons

A postman stole a child\'s birthday money and spent it at the bookies.

Mark Slater sat in his Royal Mail van opening letters to take cash and vouchers worth more than 1,000 in an eight-week spree.

He used sticky tape and glue sticks to reseal the packages and popped them back in his bag.

advertisementOn one occasion he used a voucher from a greetings card to buy himself a sandwich from Waitrose.

And Worthing Magistrates\' Court was told he used a 20 note from a child\'s birthday card to place a bet.

Slater was due to be sentenced at the court today.

But when magistrates realised they did not have the power to punish him as severely as they wanted to they referred the case to the crown court.

He had earlier admitted seven charges of theft from the postal service and one count of delaying postal packages.

The court heard Slater, 40, had been a postman for ten years and seven months when he started stealing from the mail.

His biggest haul was 33 cards containing 807 in gift vouchers.

He was caught when a member of the public reported seeing him examining the mail in his van.

Royal Mail managers posted fake letters to catch him out.

He immediately confessed when confronted over the thefts but could not explain why he committed the crimes.

His solicitor, Matthew Baines, denied a claim in the probation service\'s pre-sentence report that he took \"significant enjoyment\" from stealing the mail.

He said: \"He was by no means motivated by financial gain.

\"These actions were impulsive behaviour.

\"He was by no means able to control these actions.\"

Mr Baines said Slater, who lives in Southsea in Hampshire, has since had a seven-week-old child and found new work as a delivery driver for RAK Ceramics.

Magistrate Robert Evans said: \"You were a postman in a position of trust.

\"The public do put an awful lot of trust in postmen.

\"You were there to deliver the mail.

\"This was a particularly nasty thing to do, particularly as far as the children were concerned.\"

So because one postie is found stealing were all scummers? I think not...there's always bad apples in every job.

My office was 100% walk out last friday and will be again i'm sure. We might be losing money but Royal Mail need to understand they can't treat us like idiots.

Is the strike Friday then?

I reckon management are counting on people not being able to afford to strike, they win & screw over the union, double bubble.

Posties are ok...........
It was my mum's 75th birthday today. Postman had to bang on her door at 7.15am this morning, because the birthday card she received was apparently 6p underpaid on postage. He had to collect the 6p plus £1.00 handling charge before giving her the card.
Mum wasn,t pleased and said he could keep the card...! Postman relented and gave her the card....no charge.:laugh::laugh:

postman are not allowed to handle cash, your mum should have been given a docket to which she could have returned through the post with the correct payment in stamps.....failing this you could have paid the charge at your local sorting office. But most office would probably turned a blind eye to the charge had they known it was a little old lady......................Happy Birthday cjd's mum:bigwave:

Artificially created competition? Blimey...

Yes artificially created by the postal regulator Postcomm. They have given better licences to Royal Mail's competitors, forcing Royal Mail to let competitors use their service at prices set by the regulator.
