Homophobic chanting

My opinion is the " banter " particularly outside the ground but not exclusively has gone too far. As I BHAFC fan I have had enough of it. It is used solely to provoke, antagonise and start a fight of which I would feel inclined to get " involved " in and would be banned by the club. Anyway everyone else seems to think it is acceptable so for that reason I will not comment on this topic anymore and for that reason I am out. Just a thought lets just have a debate about topics between fans without some of them finding the need to insult the other person because they have a different opinion. I know it won't catch on but heres hoping.
DONT YOU DARE GO AND LEAVE US!! Clearly you are not alone in your thoughts-please realise how much what you have said is appreciated and agreed with.

Read the last line in my quote,......" if YOU dont think it is the right envioment for a kid....then as a good parent dont take them."

The vast majority of football supporting public "at the grounds" are adults..

No problem with kids going but its the parents choice if they go into an adult enviroment.
Since when has football been an adult environment...?thought it was a game for all?

So was this 'abuse' aimed at you? or at Brighton fans in general?

You did not report it just waited and raised it on an internet forum......Well done...
Or just maybe this poster thought it might be prefererable to get support from like-minded friends before doing so....oh....

We do not have an entire stand dedicated to families....we have one block of one stand.....

Have you been to Amex?
And have you?the family stand is a part of the 'respect' stand-where those of us that choose can be away from the friendly banter of racism, homophobia, mysogyny and generalised hatred in other areas of the ground...

Racism was addressed to a degree by increasing numbers of black players coming into the game and winning over fans, but it did take time. I remember when Chris Ramsey made his debut for the Albion and he had monkey chants directed at him from a section of the Albion 'faithful'.

Today racism is not a big issue on the pitch, but look at coaching and management, and the ethnic breakdown is different.

Bigots will be bigots, and the associations of Brighton and it having a gay community will be seized on by such people, just as they would seize upon another facet of a club wherever they were attending.

At the start of a recession that is likely to last for a decade or more, such bigots will only increase their hatred towards anyone who does not fit into their accepted profile of poorly educated, bitter, emotionally immature planks.

Good, it's just WRONG. The fact that some don't find is offensive isn't good enough, people might not be offended by racism but does that make it right? No. It's the exactly the same thing here. It should be clamped down on, and shame on the FA for not doing anything, or doing 'f*** all' as you may say.

The base of what they are saying is that homosexuals should be ridiculed and that is okay, it's teaching the kids it's okay to use gay abuse in schools and it's perfectly acceptable which it is not. It has far wider implications than you personally being offended by a chant.
Breathing sigh of relief for decent belief...

why will it? Imo now they know it upsets us, its just going to get worst, as Bozza posted in the other thread its almost impossible to police, and also opens up Brighton to get in trouble.
It isnt impossible to police-only if you choose it to be-i doubt that would be said about racism, would it?-look,this forum sanctions homophobia by keeping the safeway emoticon-so go figure why its not being jumped on...i have been pleasantly surprised by bans for homophobia but there should be zero tolerance on this.

Maybe we should all go and watch football in silence?

How about Birminghams a shit hole I want to go home? is that offending?

referees a wanker?

the list goes on

Seriously, if you can't tell the difference between calling the ref a wanker and chanting homophobic abuse then there's really no hope for you.

No-one's saying that football should be watched in silence or that we have to be unflailing polite about everyone, what some people are saying is that offensive chanting that the FA already says is unacceptable shoud be enforced as unacceptable. Just like we did with racism and religious bigotry.

I dont think its THAT bad. But if we are getting reported for Sheep Shagger gate, then this should be looked at too

IMO I think some of Brighton's chants are much much worse than the homophopic drivel we get every week. Two games already this season we have sung about 1 individual fan, not a making a generalisation about the whole area. Im talking the Leicester "slapper" and the woman at Birmingham on Saturday

Agree..and likewise the acutely dreadful thread that followed on here in spite of the regulations on nsc...all lads together,eh..?no,not so.

We are not little kids at a football match...we are grown adults.....

If you dont think it is the right enviroment for a kid, the answer is simple....if you are a good parent ...DONT TAKE THEM

this is crazy surely? Kids love football; 'Sorry son, can't take you to see Brighton, Daddy wants to scream and shout at some other daddies, maybe even have a fight!'

See above, it was outside the ground so do one.

Do you use stereotypical insults to opposition fans, ever? Inside or outside the ground? A simple question that requires only a simple answer. Well?

Sorry, that is complete crap. The fact that we are grown adults should mean you can happily take your kids to a match because of course adults know how to behave.

I am not in favour of making grounds a sterile place to go but tbh homophobic abuse is not acceptable.

Having said all of that some of our fans behaviour is pretty unacceptable. This season the introduction of alcohol into the stadium seems to have coincided with the number of idiots increasing.

Again I am not against alcohol but when my enjoyment of a match is compromised by someone who has had one too many (probably just the one) then if is a problem.

I can honestly say I don't and before I polish my halo I am far from perfect with a potty mouth sometimes but it is generic not a specific demographic. I rant at the ref, players like a nutter but it is on the basis of the football the areplaying or officiating they are doing and how well or not the team is playing. The away fans should have enough of a repetoire to sing songs at the Amex that do not include the homophobic chants which should be offensive whether hetero or gay imo and they are dull, tedious ( like hearing the same " joke / insult " a thousand times and of a Caveman mentality. I think it is good it is in the mainstream public domain and on the BBC site as its gone on too long and a couple of years time , people may look back and say, how was it allowed to continue for so long ?

Teh obvious answer from US will be no....he is a saint and sits in silence at a came.......maybe shouting cmon u stripes !!

You don't know me old chap, not at all, the initial thread was " is this abuse acceptable ? " , I still don't think it was and did not go running off to the FA or Police as I was wanting to gauge the opinion of fellow fans and its got nothing to do with being a hard man or some cobblers like that by accepting it. Anyway its on the radar now and its up to BHAFC, Police and/or the fans to do anything about it, or otherwise. I reckon in a couple of weeks it will all have died down but hopefully made people think a bit more " I think I've had enough of this now .
