Homophobic chanting

Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
Maybe we should all go and watch football in silence?

How about Birminghams a shit hole I want to go home? is that offending?

referees a wanker?

the list goes on

You are taking the debate to extremes. Banter is acceptable but there is a vast difference between banter and abuse.

I have had no problems outside the Amex after games...( only Palace) so maybe you drew attention to yourself?

Surely its a prolem for the police outside the ground?

Did you report it?

Walking with my head down in the rain. What are you going on about ?.

So we shouldnt take our kids to football now so people can act like morons?

Read the last line in my quote,......" if YOU dont think it is the right envioment for a kid....then as a good parent dont take them."

The vast majority of football supporting public "at the grounds" are adults..

No problem with kids going but its the parents choice if they go into an adult enviroment.

Hmmm i dont think thats true we have a whole stand dedicated to families, why should a 10 year old kid be subjected to abuse like that, while its banter and im sure if you meet them lads in the pub any other day of the week they wouldnt abuse you, it does not make it right.

Would you sing songs about Munich, Hillsborough as its just banter like you say?

We are not little kids at a football match...we are grown adults.....

If you dont think it is the right enviroment for a kid, the answer is simple....if you are a good parent ...DONT TAKE THEM

I take my 12 year daughter to football and have been for the past 6 years. She hears all sorts of chants and language from opposition fans and our own. She is aware that the abusive language is ok to hear but never use herself. It is just the pathetic knuckle dragging types that come up with the most offensive chants, personally don't think that will ever change

Good, it's just WRONG. The fact that some don't find is offensive isn't good enough, people might not be offended by racism but does that make it right? No. It's the exactly the same thing here. It should be clamped down on, and shame on the FA for not doing anything, or doing 'f*** all' as you may say.

The base of what they are saying is that homosexuals should be ridiculed and that is okay, it's teaching the kids it's okay to use gay abuse in schools and it's perfectly acceptable which it is not. It has far wider implications than you personally being offended by a chant.

Has anyone here been beaten at the football for being called Gay?

I saw it happen in Stoke a few years ago. A Brighton fan was walking back to the station in the City centre. Someone from a side-street wearing a Balaclava ran out, punched him in the head and shouted 'gay twat' and then run away.

Racism is much less common in football now. This is due to a concerted effort over time to highlight abuse and challenge this behaviour. I am of the opinion that the same needs to be done with homophobia before it lessens in football. I am sure it will get worse before it gets better.

Racism got less due to the attitudes in the Country changing. Im not sure you can change the mindset of the majority of working class men

Only for the homophobes...how about for those of that are offended or abused directly by it,it might now start to get a whole lot better...?

why will it? Imo now they know it upsets us, its just going to get worst, as Bozza posted in the other thread its almost impossible to police, and also opens up Brighton to get in trouble.

Was on the BBC Sussex phone in this morning, cut off, quite rudely in my prime before I could make my points. Anyway BHAFC should be making a stand, not the other clubs, initially at least and the club do the square root of diddly squat about it.
absolutely agree...the club really has the chance of making a name for itself and has done nothing..im aware a couple of years ago the local gay football team won its national league-brilliant!when they approached the club about maybe being presented on the pitch at withdean like other high achieving teams are, they were refused....hmmm.....seems to be a commonality here....
