Herbal medicine is not homeopathy, it's something quite different you pillock.

For example, digitalis is a cardiotonic (ie works on the cardiac muscle) drug extracted from purple foxglove (digitalis purpurea) and has been used as a herbal remedy for the treatment of heart conditions for century's, albeit in a largely empirical fashion prior to the 1770's.
A homeopathic "presentation" of digitalis, if it exists, would have no molecules of digitalis present in the tablet, solution etc.

Absolutely this - I was given digitalis when I was an infant and it literally saved my life. Homeopathy would have seen me die.

for you mother, clearly it didn’t work, fair enough. I know plenty who have reaped the benefits of this and other alternative medicines, i am baffled at the ignorance and arrogance of some of you lot. OPEN YOUR MINDS MAN!

Scientists used to think the world was flat dontchaknow?

Tim Minchin - "If you open your mind too much, your brain will fall out".

By the way, 'scientists' never thought the world was flat. Uninformed cavemen would have assumed that it was, but the ancient Greeks were well aware of the curvature of the Earth.

I don't believe that it is arrogant to discredit something that has been proven not to work. Surely it is arrogant to presume that you know better than every medically trained professional? I have no idea how water manages to remember a tiny drop of onion juice, but miraculously forgets all the shit it's had in it...

Why is it that people who believe bollocks like homeopathy almost always believe the other shit that is widely rejected by scientists? Do you believe in a SOUL? Maybe an aura? A personal guardian angel?
For fucks sake, wake up and join the rest of the modern world. We have long since abandoned superstition and nonsense like homeopathy, and we're better for it.

If you were hit by a car, do you want to go to a hospital or to see a homeopathic practioner? I suppose I could rephrase it as "would you like to live or not". If your kid gets sick and coughs up blood, do you take him to hospital or pray for him? I mean, really... ???

It's a belief in the unproven power of unproven 'supernatural beings'. Until someone wants to offer up some evidence of the existence of said power, and its source, then yep - bullshit.

What? Saying the Ultra Traditionalists who read the DM are into happy clappy Alternative hippy medicine is like claiming the Nazi party was full of Yiddish homosexuals, you got to be as dumb as a rock to buy into that.

funnily enough there are historian who claim Hitler's grandmother was Jewish & they suspect he was a latent homosexual!!!!

They can't both be right, can they? ???

Yes - it's "a load of f***ing bullshit". The majority of Christians in the world live in places where children aren't educated, or where food/water/money is very scarse. As a whole, they are far less intelligent than your average westerner.

You can believe whatever rubbish you want as long as you dont try to tell me how to live. I don't care if you believe the ridiculous horseshit about virgin births (Jesus was a bastard child if this is true) and resurrections, but dont tell poofters how to live, or people who shave their beards, or don't kill atheists for fun, or people who eat shellfish etc...

The fact that a lot of uneducated, indoctrinated idiots believe something is NOT evidence of anything. Don't even get me started on Islam...

And also that the unproven being with unproven powers CARES that people are having abortions to save their lives, or working on a Sunday. Or that people can part seas, or come back from the dead.

I also notice that he didn't mention any of the completely factual points in my original post. I'll reiterate, I don't care if you believe that the universe was created. However, that doesn't suggest that he is omnipotent, omniscient, benevolent etc.

Just to check, you accept evolution, don't you?

There's no need to. ALL religion is the same, but I think this was covered in the 'Do you believe in God?' thread...
Sorry, some numpty mentions it and I can't help myself!

Back to the point, Homeopathy IS bullshit and those who believe in it are idiots.

To be fair, I can see how my first experience could well have been about placebo and the actual experience of just me being pro active in seeking treatment doing the trick. The second experience is highly unlikely to have been a placebo effect.

For any medical condition everyone’s first port of call should be their GP however modern medicine doesn't always work. A friend suffered for many years with a condition which medicine controls in a limited way. Her GP referred her to the Homeopathic Hospital in London & the treatment has worked, she is cured & no it’s not a condition which could be subject to a placebo effect. I know a vet who used homeopathic treatments on animals for certain ailments, they worked & as he said, the placebo effect just doesn’t come in to play with animals. The farmers were very pleased, saved a fortune on drugs.

Satan was the one with horns. He is the Bully.

Homeopathy is mostly harmless nonsense though. I tolerate it because I buy my Tea at the Health Food Shop because the Co-op tea buyers are not up to scratch. Without selling the useless crap they might go out of business. Their business ethics by selling the crap is beyond my sense of fair play.

PS: Don't buy Tyrozets from the chemist for a sore throat either. They don't work.

That all depends on your definition of 'harmless'. People NOT being treated with something that is proven to work in place of taking something that is either proven not to work or not proven to work is far from harmless in my opinion. Eventually people die.

Thanks for the arrogant jibe. I always enjoy that one. You don't accept what i believe therefore you are arrogant, nice.

Anyway you have kind of missed the point. It's not that science can't explain it. It's that science can explain it thats your problem.
Show me where I've asked anyone to accept what I believe. I haven't, and nor would I. Also,I haven't called any belief system "bullshit" or anyone with a different belief system to my own an"idiot". Call it a jibe if you like, but I stand by my claim that there is an immense amount of arrogance on display in this thread and the God ones.

Digitalis drugs are used as allopathic medicine, they are not CAM.

i find that quite offensive to be honest, i'm not a believer (in homeopathy or god) but my close family are, to essentially describe them as 'thick' is highly insulting and makes you incredibly ignorant. Which i'm sure you're not really.....
