They are called environmental scientists these days.

Nope, I'm a professional environmental scientist and guardian reader and am sure that homeopathy is bollocks. I am open minded hence the fact that I researched it, and discovered that it was a load of horseshit.

Ok, tin hat time, but here goes anyway.

I've had two very positive experiences from homeopathy. It could well be a mere placebo, I don't know, but I do know it worked well for me.

This thread seems to me to be very similiar to all those threads about God. Personally, I can't help but find arrogant, the belief system that says - unless modern day science can offer some kind of tangible proof for something it MUST be bullshit and therefore only subscribed to by idiots.

You experienced the placebo effect, that is a very well researched and understood phenomenon, but you didn't experience anything else.

Homeopathy is a load of rubbish.

But of course that doesn't mean to say all alternative medicine is rubbish, even that not used by mainstream medicine. For an 'alternative medicine' to become a 'medicine', it not only has to work, but

a) has to be able to make a substantial profit for the pharmaceutical company, and therefore:

b) has to be patentable

So it's worth keeping an open mind, but equally it's best to trust the people who know what they're talking about rather than a website with lots of long words and dodgy science.

How can homeopathy be bullshit?

It is a minutely small particle of something disolved in an almost infinitely large quantity of water. The water then "remembers" the characteristics of the minutely small particle and then acts on the body accordingly.

Seems like good science to me.

What? Saying the Ultra Traditionalists who read the DM are into happy clappy Alternative hippy medicine is like claiming the Nazi party was full of Yiddish homosexuals, you got to be as dumb as a rock to buy into that.

Really? I heard that Hitler was part Jew, and rumour has it he had a high regard for surrounding himself with long-booted uniformed men wearing leather straps.

Also remember the MORE diluted the solution is, the MORE potent it becomes. It does make me wonder if those who believe in homeopathy risk drinking any sort of water at all, due to the clearly huge amount of active medication they'd be consuming.

As if on cue, a perfect example of what 1066familyman was talking about.

Quite

To be fair, I can see how my first experience could well have been about placebo and the actual experience of just me being pro active in seeking treatment doing the trick. The second experience is highly unlikely to have been a placebo effect.

Fairy Shit

If its natural it is highly likely to be poisonous. Medicines are best tested and the right dosage of poison measured to suit the patient.

If its farmed cow it is likely to be full of chemicals as well, Injected into them on animal welfare grounds.

personally, whenever I go into Body Shop to buy presents for the stupid bitch fraction of my extended family I always take a rat and enough vessels to dilute their products to 1/any dimension/ functionality of Gabriel's Horn and test their rodent eyes just to make sure that I am not evil.

but I still think I'm evil

Of course it is bullshit, but it may have a placebo effect for people who believe in it.

Look up some of the stuff James Randi has to say about it, it really is a crock of shit. The memory of water my arse.

for you mother, clearly it didn’t work, fair enough. I know plenty who have reaped the benefits of this and other alternative medicines, i am baffled at the ignorance and arrogance of some of you lot. OPEN YOUR MINDS MAN!

Scientists used to think the world was flat dontchaknow?

What an appalling thing to come out with,Bristolseagull.I suggest you open your mind and read the research from respected scientists before you come on here and tell us to 'open our minds'.

Thanks for the arrogant jibe. I always enjoy that one. You don't accept what i believe therefore you are arrogant, nice.

Anyway you have kind of missed the point. It's not that science can't explain it. It's that science can explain it thats your problem.
