would be very happy with both but can't see how we can afford either - on Twitter we are being linked with Kieran Lee and Chris taylor of Oldham - much more realistic I think if not immediately having the wow factor.

Lee has won their top player awards for 2 years running and was the best full back I saw against us in League 1 last year. Taylor I'm less sure about - big midfielder but nothing outstanding then they played him further forward and he scored 11 goals this year.

Not going to win many fans over but more likely than the other two any day of the week

Not saying he's right, but somebody on here earlier posted a link to the fact that Villa were the 41st (?) highest wage sports team in the world or something, with an average salary of 40 odd thousand a week for first teamers. When you look down their squad, that really wouldn't suprise me.

I just can't believe it. Shay Given is probably on about that sort of number, and Steven Ireland, Darren Bent and Richard Dunne are probably on that sort of figure. Maybe Alan Hutton (rubbish) as well, considering he moved from Tottenham.

I would hate to think Heskey is on £65,000 per week.

I'd rather us sign Championship proven players, I'm not doubting their quality to step up but we've already got too many League 1 players in our squad, if they don't make the step up then we'll have to wait till January to bring in loan which Poyet isn't keen on.

It's a tweet from something called "Football League Transfers" which only seems to operate during transfer windows- I tried to check them out - seem very hit and miss which is what you would expect but certainly seem to have a better strike rate than that bloody Football Transfers site so has some nominal credibility. Could easily be nothing but seemed more realistic targets than others mentioned, especially Lee who from memory plays either right back or central midfield and at 6'1" seems to offer what we are seeking and only 23 so time to develop.
I don't remember Taylor playing against us at all but he has had 2 reasonable seasons in the last three - doesn't immediately appear to be someone we would be looking at but as I say I can't recall seeing him play.

The 4-1 and 5-1 vs Croatia. So recent enough for him to be worth a go in the CHAMPIONSHIP.

Intelligent, quicker than you think, unselfish, positionally brilliant, superb at bringing the ball down and bringing others into space/play, he is EXACTLY what we need.

Older, slower, more injury prone. Even with the drop in class from Prem to Championship, I still think Heskeys well past it.

What possible reason do you have to make such a wild claim? For Aston Villa to be paying any of their squad £65,000 a week is outrageous, but to even suggest they're paying that to Emile Heskey... Jesús, SURELY not?!

Ermm well, bent is on over 70K, Ireland is on 67k...... Heskey got an overpriced deal with MON signed him. Part of the reason we are in the shite a wee bit at the moment financially. It might not be as high as 65k but its over 50k for sure....id have to dig around to find the value as ive seen it before.

I just don't buy this... wrong on so many levels... you are talking about games in 2010... what has he done since? Why can't he get into Villa's team regularly? Unselfish is true, and that's because he has a shot like a guided missile seeking out his opponent's goalie, or the upper tier of the stand behind the goal he is aiming for... also, how is he EXACTLY what we need? I thought Gus sees us as the poor man's Barca? How does Heskey fit in with our style EXACTLY?

the two of them together and i'd wet myself with joy. 50 goals in the championship i reckon. assuming one could keep Owen fit...

i tend to judge peoples ability to understand football and whats going on on the pitch by wether they like Heskey or not. he is an outstanding player and he only gets the poor opinions because he is nominally a striker. recast him as a midfielder/winger. he has good control, good in the air, good passing, can happily have the ball to feet or in the air, back to goal, running at players, general grafter... he's a rich mans Zamora, and i think we are all rather fond of him. as a foil for CMS i cant think of a better player. ask Micheal Owen of Liverpool and England days.

down side he's 34. but then that means we might actually get him because his big paydays are over. however, i reckon he's more likly to stay in the midlands/north. which is a shame for us.

Just stop... he is no longer the player he was... he doesn't fit with our style of play... he would cost far too much... other than that, perfect...

At last! Finally some sense! On the plus side he's world class at sheperding balls out for a throw in.

Heskey is a/was a good player, everything you want in a striker except goals. Presence, strength,annoying.....
Just never knew where the goal was consistently. he can however play in the small guy. CMS for instance. Problem is we would need to play the long ball a little more often.
