Saw yesterday that Aston Villa players have an average wage of £47k a week :)eek:) And Heskey must be one of the highest earners there, can't begin to imagine him stepping down to the Championship and lowering his wage by such a vast amount.

Heskey would NOT be perfect IMHO... really doesn't fit our style of play, overpaid, going rapidly downhill, doesn't score, etc. etc.

Lots of people think, wrongly, that Heskey is shit. I'd say that makes him one of the most UNDER-rated English players of recent years.

I agree. Just watch Germany 1 England 5 to see how Heskey helps other players score goals.
WHen he joined Liverpool he was a goal machine 21 in 24 games or something. He could tear it up in the Championship.

People also said Roberts was shit in the premiership but he seems to have it sorted at Reading, big lump and caused us many problems down here! As said before I think he would be a good buy if we could afford him. There will be others out there looking for clubs in the coming months though....

That was 11 years ago.

He's done absolutely sod-all for years now, and I honestly cannot see that dropping down a division is suddenly going to revitalise him.

I'm going to file this under "no thanks".

If we could afford him, then he would be just brilliant for us in this division. One of the best linking forwards this country has produced in decades. OK, his recent goalscoring record is poor, but playing a bit further up front han we have been, he would get a good share of goals with CMS.
I would be very pleased, albeit surprised, if he came here.

Is there ANY tangible evidence to suggest we are looking at signing Heskey or is this the start of silly season?

Doubt it but there was the same rumour last year, it may have gone under the radar as we were in Owen frenzy at the time

But Gus doesn't play with 2 forwards.

this.

All the talk about best link up play means nothing if we play with one forward ........... who is he meant to be linking up with? himself?

He was very good in the run up to WC2010, and was instrumental in our two best performances of the last 5-10 years:

The 4-1 and 5-1 vs Croatia. So recent enough for him to be worth a go in the CHAMPIONSHIP.

Intelligent, quicker than you think, unselfish, positionally brilliant, superb at bringing the ball down and bringing others into space/play, he is EXACTLY what we need.
