I have never ever BOOED a player or a manager on the pitch when they are wearing the stripes

I wish a few more fans were like you then Ernest, The abuse I heard towards Henderson today was a disgrace and it's the first time in my life I've been disgusted to be a Brighton fan.

Hum,

I don't post on football related threads often (as I don't have the neccessary 1000 posts) but here is my take on the situation:

First and foremost I think that Henderson shouldn't have been booed. He did make an almighty f*** up, BUT, he also came over to the fans and apologised - he could have just walked off the pitch and ignored the fans. He was visibly upset by his mistake.

On the whole I thought he had an average match, the incident where he expected El-Abd to clear the ball was an example of an poor play from Henderson. However, the save he made in the last 10 minutes was pretty damn impressive (I can't remember exactly when it happened - I think I was verging on hyptohermia at that point!)

As for dropping him. I am in two minds. I like Henderson, but I don't think he makes things easy for himself. If we were playing a league 1 match on Saturday I would be 'resting' him. However, I have a feeling that he will rise to the occasion against West Ham.

Whatever the manager decides, I have faith that it will be the correct decision.

Not going to victimise the guy, no one makes mistakes on purpose!

But would definately like to see Hendo out of the team, he does not talk enough to his defenders which makes them very hesitant and certainly does not command his area or come for any where enougth crosses.

He seems to sit on his line and let things happen in front of him and has no impact on the defensive unit.

Some of the problems with his game must be obvious to the coahing team? Do they work on his weakness or do they just not see them!

all this talk but the simple fact is my view and that of everyone else on this board does not matter. Wilkins is the boss and selects his team and he has made Henderson his No1.

Show support to the team and the players

30-40% of travelling support booed him off the pitch according to DTG

That was an utter disgrace. A Bournemouth player, interviewed on the radio after the match explained what led to the goal. He said he felt sorry for the keeper who slipped. Whether or not people feel he was culpable, to boo one's own player and call out "dodgy keeper" was despicable. He was man enough to hold his hands up at thend and had to be consoled by other members of the team, yet some people, who should be ashamed of themselves, decided to react as above. I have never been so disgusted at a match before.

There were some CLOWNS in the away end.

First the cries of 'dodgy keeper' and boos as soon as the incident occured. Then after a couple of minutes Henderson bravely came over and actually physically held his hand up, before LOTS of people starting booing and abusing him.

:nono:

Unfortunately he cocked up. It happens. Now the mans confidence will be DESTROYED (well, what's left of it anyway).

Is it worth risking him against West Ham? You never know, he might have a point to prove and have a blinder...???

I don't think 40% of the Albion fans booed Henderson, it was just that those that did were more vocal that the ones who gave syympathetic applause. All credit to Kerry for "rescuing" WH from the taunting Bournemouth fans and making him face us. He was clearly devastated and close to tears - those who booed him (not me) were venting their disappointment and in the cold light of day will be embarrassed by their actons.

The more important issue is why we struggled for 93 minutes against a team second from bottom of our league. Are we happy that our no nonsense Centre Half (El Abd) is our MOM and Gatting, Revell and Robinson only had two shots between them? Robinson's was a selfish attempt from an impossible angle when he should have passed.

Similarly why does Cox fail to hit the target with his free kicks and why does Rents, a so called dead ball specialist run 100 yards to take a corner and them float an aimless cross into the keepers hands?

Anyone else think that Butters has put on a "few" pounds over Christmas, or is it the lucky white shirts!

If he does, the same fickle fans will be singing 'Irelands number 1' at him

Exactly what do people think is to be gained by booing Hendo or any other player? It isn't exactly going to put him in the right state of mind to put it right next game.

This whole anti-Henderson thing is a childish hangover from him being signed by the couldn't do anything right McGhee and not couldn't do anything wrong Adams.

I think Henderson is a great keeper. There wouldn't be any criticism of him if he wasn't keeping a legend on the bench. Kuipers has committed a few howlers in his time too remember - all keepers do! I think booing a young(ish) keeper like that is a disgrace.

When McGhee came in Kuipers was out because of his car crash was he not? And Roberts was good and part of a good defence so he never displaced him, but when he got his chance he made the number one shirt his own again, until another unfortunate serious injury....

No - he played in McGhee's first match, as Roberts was out - however, he dropped several clangers in the few games he got, and roberts came back in. Since then, he's played off and on, but never really retained the shirt for any amount of time - indeed, both he and Hendo were fit at the start of the year, and McGhee decided Hendo was the better bet.

He hasn't been number one for, what, four years now?

That was disgraceful and whoever joined in should be ashamed. As I said earlier, I didn't applaud the team at the end because frankly, I didn't think there was much to applaud but there is no way I booed Henderson. He made a mistake which clearly a lot of our morons have never done in their lives.

You clearly weren't there today. He was shocking throughout the game.

What bugs me off is this ridiculous claim that Kuipers' distribution is so bad. Should this be the case, why does Henderson not come in for heavier criticism, as his is generally far worse. Yes, he made one save which 'kept us in the game', but it was a save I would expect most goalkeepers to make.

It's nothing to do with disloyalty, and everything to do with a lack of trust in Henderson. He has never won over the fans for making them feel secure about his goalkeeping in a way that, say, Beasant or Beeney or, yes, Kuipers has. Until that day arrives, he will always be mistrusted. And his shocking, hopeless f*** up at the end of the game only compouds the frustration reserved for a person who has yet to win the fans over.

Time for him to move over, I think.

I hope that your business brain is better than your assessment of players or your shop will not stay open long.

Henderson made a mistake by not picking up the ball and I can only assume that he thought that it was a back pass. Having spoken to one of the team this evening I am told that as he went to kick the ball his standing leg slipped and he was absolutley distraught in the dressing room, knowing that he had cost us a point that we had appeared to have fought for.

Henderson is rightly our No 1 keeper and it has been said that Kuipers isnt good enough to be No 1 by the last 5 managers

Oi. I never said he did it deliberately. That post was about the fans' reaction to his mistake, not as to whether he is a shit goalie.

It's an OPINION that Henderson is the better goalie (not one that I share). His kicking (the supposed no.1 criticism of Kuipers, hence the massive irony) IS often poor - a fact you have yet to realise. His communication with the defence is there for all to see, and it is a worry. Henderson does, however, have many fine goalkeeping qualities.

Now if this opinion is so shit, and I can back it up with a certain amount of reasoned thought, even if you do disagree, then pray tell, what the f*** does this have to do with my business brain and my shop?

How many years is it since he's really been number one? You've got to go back to Hinshelwood to find the last manager who regarded him as such.

Not entirely true that statement. Coppell came in to the club in 2002 and Kuipers was his number 1 and the only reason he did not play was because he got injured at Norwich in January of 2003. At the beginning of the following season Roberts started as number 1, but got injured, Kuipers came in and even when Roberts was fit, Coppell was picking Kuipers. It was McGhee that dropped him after the FA Cup game at Lincoln. Kuipers did start the 2004 due to Roberts being injured and around October when Roberts was available, McGhee was still picking Kuipers.
