Help required - I am in very serious danger of voting Tory next year.

Mr C you can continue to swallow the myths over immigration of you want to, the whole point of economic migrants is that they come here to work and do the shitty jobs that some of homegrown idle scroungers can't be arsed to do. Even Blair and Blunkett acknowledge that migrants contribute more to the economy than they take out. I just fail to see where wanting to have better life for yourself should make you a criminal.

There is a distinction between genuine economic migrants, and those here to take the piss. I do not have a problem with economic migrants in general (damn that doesn't fit with my right-wring-skinhead-jackboot-wearing views) but I do have a problem with those whose only aim is to take the piss. I know several people who worked in a couple of post offices and they often commented on how certain people were always waiting for their benefits (while wearing designer clothes), couldn't speak any English, then walked out and got into a nice flash car. That's my point.

Also ID cards, do I have something to hide, no I dont, and as such I stand to lose everything if there is a f*** up. Why don't we all just get barcoded and have electronic tags strapped to our ankles. FFS this is the 21st century, and a free country, yet I could end up having to produce a card to prove who I am, and possibly suffer a penalty if I do not. That sounds like a fine upstanding defintion of freedom to me, and I thought it was just the lefties who hankered after the good old days of Stalinism, jeez.

Did you ever watch that series "Dark Angel"? Anyway a lot of what you do is already recorded and tracked. Credit cards, CCTV, digital road cameras etc etc. The idea of the cards is to prove your entitlement to benefits and the NHS (this preventing fradulent use of said services) and to prove who you are in the event of a criminal act. Wouldn't you rather the police could work out who a suspected criminal is within two minutes rather than spending several hours doing detective work cos the guy refused to speak?? Sounds a waste of time to me.

As for separating the MP from the party, I could give you that one. it would stick in my craw to vote for the party led by Bliar, but if the person I put in parliament is prepared to argue the viewpoints that I agree with, then at least my voice will be heard in some way. If it was a party line toeing lacky standing Brighton Pav I would have no hestitation in taking my vote elsewhere, but he isn't. And if I did withdraw my vote then I am afraid the tories would win the seat, because most people in this country are incapable of looking beyond the two main parties for an alternative, and I feel of the two governments that are on offer, a labour one would still infinitely more acceptable than a tory one.

Most people only look at the two main parties because they are the ones most likely to get into power. If I thought the UKIP had a vague chance of winning the election, I would vote for them and rid us of this hellhole that is the EU. But I won't, because a vote for them is one less vote for the Tories which equals more chance of Labour getting in.... which is the worst-case scenario in my opinion.

Mr C(onservative!),

Brown did indeed inherit a most fortunate set of economic circumstances. But surely you cannot beleive that he has had nothing to do with preserving this situation. They have been in power for 7 years, we can't be economically surviving on the Tories still after all this time. Credit where credit's due. Brown may be a dour bastard, but he has kept the ship afloat fairly well.

My point was that given the world economy is generally ok at the moment, he didn't have to do a lot to keep ours strong. He hasn't f***ed it up hugely, which I admit he could have done. All I am saying is that citing a strong economy as one of Labour's achievements is not really fair.

Anyway the C in my nickname here is not for Conservative (even though I am). I was wondering how long it would take for someone to append that

Tory candidates tend to be smug self-satisfied wankers with dodgy haircuts. That's why I can't vote for them (see Tim Loughton for a classic example). Unfortunately, whoever I vote for in Worthing won't win. Bring in proportional representation I say
