According to my starting 11 above, we need about 2-3 new players.

Not exactly a mega overhaul.

Depends whether you want mid table/ fringe of play offs, or a genuine attempt for promotion, you team has already shown it's not good enough for a strong challenge. Also, where is the competion for places? A couple of injuries and suspensions and we are screwed, hence the need for 4 or 5 at least and that was before we lost Calderon and Crofts. On the basis that probably 1 in 3 signings are usually duds, we probably need enen more it we are looking to go up.

As I said before, if we can't afford to put together a promotion chasing team, so be it, probably just as well expectation levels are reduced before the season starts, but TB's comments a few weeks ago suggested that we were going for it!

Dear me some people are clueless. Get a grip.

History would suggest otherwise, so you can climb down off that horse..this club has excelled at f***ing up pre-season. Let's hope that it is different this year though.

all squads take hits - even Man Utd lost Ronaldo, its how you respond if Crofts goes to Norwich hopefully everyone wins, we get a big wedge for a player picked up for free, Crofts does really well at Norwich and we get a replacement such as Prutton. Calderon is a disappointment but thats life - football is mercenary and why should he have any loyalty to anyone other than his family, if he had been a disaster we would be waving him goodbye. Forster - I am sad it ended like this as he has been loyal and wanted to play for the club.

The calibre of player Poyet is attracting Hendrie and Arismendi point to the club being an attractive proposition.

Chances of going up next season i would say are very slim and maybe Dickinson will come good and maybe with Crofts fee we can get A.Barnes or A.Nother.

Anyone panicking now really are slightly deranged, there is a long time to go till next season.

Big mention for Russell Slade who with Dicker, Crofts and Bennett has added about a million in value to the squad, hope he does alright at Orient as long as they are below us

It's the time of the year for rumours. The football media is full of it.

I'm in the wait and see camp, and besides I'd trust the manager's judgement on this above all posters on the board, including me.Well, especially me.

reading this thread i can see both sides really, in that i understand some of the concerns whilst also appreciating it is only May. for me there's maybe a little frustration seeing other sides starting to build for next season with signings, and yet i read about not much happening here till July on a couple of threads. can someone explain the July aspect as am not too sure about it. i guess i am clueless, but can someone clue me up

Not panicking at all, but what history does tell us is that wholesale changes to squads do take time to bed in. At the end of the season, I thought we had the basis of a useful squad, but I did not expect to lose 2 of our most influential players.

On the whole I trust in Gus, but the budget is controlled by TB, not Gus. He's not even in the UK but it looks like his club captain is being sold for a fairly modest sum, while he is away, just to raise a few quid. Maybe Gus has no input over this piece of business?

I'm thinking more of recent history - same sorta of mass hysteria in the January window I seem to remember. History's on my side there, so you can get off your......pony.

(I don't do smack talk very well).

At no point in those pre-seasons was our manager GUS POYET, the greatest man to have ever set foot in Sussex.

Si u are absolutely right but we are not talking about wholesale changes we are talking about losing 2 players(who played key roles in our reasonable 2nd half of the season) but in reality would have led us too finishing just outside the play offs which Bloom will not find palatable next season. You never know Navarro could be the next Crofts!

He's not irreplaceable. Poyet's mantra is "if a player wants to go he won't stand in his way". If he goes Poyet will bring in someone to replace him. As others have said lets take the fee and move on.

This thread reeks of the one a while back about Gus' supposed contacts not coming up with any good players back in January and how our squad was a bit rubbish. It's way too early to judge and I expect Gus will have exactly the squad he wants in place before a ball is kicked in a friendly.

Until we are flying a bit higher, we have to worry about losing any decent players to other clubs. That's always been the way in this game, and we won't see it change for us.

We just need to look at West Ham United, and pray that their recent history doesn't happen to us - because they have peppered the Premier Division with talents that they have discovered (not to mention having now been taken over by that David Gold) which must be very frustrating.

is there any chance that Bloom's spent a great wad of his fortune getting us out stadium and he's not that well cashed up after that?

If that were the case I could then respect the decisions to sell players to help fund the next seasons signings and other player costs etc.

I highly doubt Tony Bloom is that STUPID.

When my son was told about Edgar Davids, ok that may be the wrong name, he was also told that we wont recognise over half of the team next season only by name so who knows what is happening whilst we type our assumptions and rumours.
