The subtle difference being that no one on here is in a position of responsibility over their peers except the mods who try and stop us from getting sued for libel or done for Internet abuse.
Sometimes posters put up comments that are so ludicrous that the only proper response is a good old Anglo Saxon riposte.
Some of the insults I've seen on here have been adopted by me into my own lexicon of put downs and abuse. In fact if it wasn't for the colourful and imaginative slagging off it wouldn't be worth reading half of the threads.
That's true of course, but the question I posed is whether they have the right to insult others when presumably in other areas of their lives they would not normally do it. With respect to you, it is a forum and there will be different opinions, but the ludicrous posts to which you refer are your opinion of their worth; they might have real validity and it is your post which is ludicrous. I think we could probably agree that " colourful and imaginative slagging off" might be acceptable - most folk, I think, would see a distinction with this and an unpleasant insult that invariably will not be true.
