For the record on this thread, whilst Flinders is here and playing like he has on the last 2 Saturdays he should retain the shirt. However I would not renew his loan spell once we are safe as Martin and Sullivan should be give some games.

Yep agree with that, and if they are good enough I think Kuipers should go in the summer or get a very reduced wage.

Not sure we can risk going into next season with 2 very inexperienced keepers. I do expect Kuipers to be retained and I doubt we will bring in cover, just use the loan system.

This is vaguely similar to what happened in 1993, we had sold Beeney to Leeds, used Digweed for the rest of the season, then released him.

Ended up starting the following season with Nicky Rust who had not played a league game and I believe Steve Brook was the back up, who was signed from non league Bath.

Does anybody else think these little situations arise because all our keepers have been much of a muchness?

Fair enough. How did the 94 season go? I dont remember that far back  I dont think Wilkins is afraid to rely on youth and if Sullivan/Martin come in and do well for 7 or 8 games then maybe he will take a gamble.

[BToo bulky is one of the criticisms. [/B]

Yes because thats an unreasnable comment.

Keepers do not need to be so big, it can hinder them and slow them down with distance shots - look at Robinson

We started very poorly, but it did mean the good news of Barry Lloyd finally getting his P45.

Brady came in, we won a fair number of games, finished pretty much where we are now. At the end of the season Rust was on stand by for the England U21's Squad that was going to Toulon.

Interestingly or some what worryingly, the following season Rust set the record for the number of clean sheets in a row, which Roberts matched in the 2003/04 season.

Not too shabby. What ever happened to Rust?

Is this the Paul Robinson that has been England's first choice keeper since October 2004?

And struggles when puts on weight?

In your words is only number 1 because no other real options

He's a goalkeeping coach somewhere non-league..... lost track of him last year... still in his early thirties but had injuries.

He never kicked on from a reasonable start. Getting relegated in 95/96 seemed to knock his confidence and he did seem to have a bit of an attitude that he was too good for the bottom league. The following season he got injured and Omerod came in, who was a limited keeper, but seemed to be a bit more solid than Rust.

Rust reappeared for a couple of games in the 97/98 season and was released at the end of that one by Horton.

Last seem in the professional game letting 9 in for Barnet on his debut. Last I heard was he was turning out for Cambridge City.

Ben Foster looks like he could hold the England shirt for a good few years. Is he still contracted at United? It would do him good if they played him next year but I can see Van Der Sar getting another season in. Hopefully Foster will keep playing and stay fit because his command of the area and solid kicking are exactly what we need at the moment.
