Gonna be so weird not seeing him in the world of football anymore!

I still think Man U will be alright without him though, shame his last ever game isn't at Old Trafford and instead is gonna be at West Brom.

This Sunday is gonna an emotional day though for all Man U fans, Fergie's last at Old Trafford!

The fact people hate him, shows how good he has been for such a long time.

I cant stand the ruddy faced git, but what he has done at Manchester United is unlikely to ever happen again.

I can see him coming back after a couple of years or standing in when needed, when United sack someone after 6months as the team are 5th in the league.

As a mark of respect all premier league games will play an extra 5mins added time this weekend.

Great manager but tosspot of a bloke.

The favourite appears to be Moyes just because he's been touted for years as the next manager of Man United. I don't really understand why he's always been touted for the job- he's Scottish that's the only similarity he has with SAF. He's never managed a big transfer budget or been in a title race.

I've always assumed it would be Moyes but having read a few tweets from a BBC journo he's alluding that the decision to be made in 48 hours will rock the football world which leads me more towards thinking it might be Mourinho with Ronaldo in toe. Imagine that.

Like or him or not, Ferguson has simply been the best club manager there has been in the last three decades. He has completely out managed his rivals and I very much doubt whether Utd would have been as successful without him. The last two or three titles he has won have been with fairly mediocre teams, but at least they remained a team throughout, unlike the lightweights at Arsenal, and prima-donna's at Chelsea and City.

A divisive and at times petulant and unlikeable personality, but one hell of a manager. United will now slip back into the pack for the next few seasons. The toughest act to follow I would imagine.

At last a sensible assessment of the old curmudgeon. He saw off teams who (incredibly) had bigger budgets as well as some really good footballing sides over the years. His teams (and above all else, he could create a team) have been so consistent and so strong - we may never see the like again.

Be interesting to hear what has actually happened there because only in the last couple of weeks did Ferguson say he had no intention of retiring as manager.

Fergie's ability to create successful team after sucessful team within the same club is something that I can't see being matched in the future. Added to that the fact that many of his sides were build around young, British talent is something that he should be applauded and remembered for. He has created something way beyond just a football team, he has bascially created a cult of success.

I reckon it will be Mourinho.

I don't. It's been often quoted that there's plenty on the United board that don't like/want Jose. Anyway, he's not really a long term bod is he, he'll only stay 2 or 3 years, win something and move on - that's not what United will want.

hats off to SAF, his achievements will not ever be bettered - but boy I am glad that his going will mean the end of every other PL manager (present and newly promoted) automatically brown nosing and grovelling to 'Sir Alex' like his approval is needed - its cringworthy as if being seen to suck up to SAF means 'you've made the big time'.......they all do it, if nothing else I liked Benitez for saying bollocks to that!

Well, I think the board asked him to. Mourinho has been harping on about Chelsea, and there's no real better replacement for Ferguson other than Mourinho - so perhaps this was their one chance to get him.
